If you feel lost in a haze of sadness, there are ways to create your own happiness. You’re not in control of what happens to you, but you’re in control of how you react to it. Even on your worst day, there are ways to create your own happiness. All you need to do is train your mind to be a bit more positive!
1. Change Your Perspective
Did you answer a question incorrectly during an interview? You could beat yourself up over the error, or you could store the mistake in the back of your brain. The next time you have an important interview, you’ll know the correct way to answer the question. One of the ways to create your own happiness is by forgetting about the bad in a situation and focusing on the good. There’s always a bright side, no matter how dark life seems.
2. Smile Often
Our expressions can help amplify our emotions, so if you smile, you might actually make yourself feel happier. Even if the act itself fails to help, smiling will make the people around you smile. When there’s so much friendliness around you, how can you be upset? Smiling isn’t a surefire cure to sadness, but it sure can help!
3. Always Be Optimistic
People may struggle with optimism, because it seems unrealistic. However, you can find a healthy balance between being positive and being realistic. If you want to become friends with a guy, don’t assume that he wants nothing to do with you. However, don’t be too positive and assume that he’ll strike up a conversation with you one day. Be realistic by starting the conversation yourself, but be optimistic by thinking that he’ll appreciate a new friendship.
4. Focus on the Good
When you meet someone new, what’s the first thing you notice? If it’s something negative, like the awful outfit they’re wearing or their outrageous opinions, you should try to alter the way you look at others. If your first impressions are always negative, then you’re going to believe that everyone will return the favor by looking at you negatively. If you want the world to feel like a happier place, you have to start with yourself. Who knows, your niceness could rub off on others.
5. Make the Plans
Isolation is a dreary thing. Some people enjoy being alone, but you don’t want to be locked in your room forever. If you’re annoyed that your friends never contact you, talk to them first. Be the one to make the plans, so that you have something fun to look forward to. There’s nothing wrong with taking the initiative every once in a while.
6. Get Creative
If you’re frustrated with reality, there’s nothing wrong with a temporary break from it all. Read a book, listen to a song, or watch a show. If you want to release some creative energy, create your own story. You don’t even have to write it down. Sometimes, storylines unfold the best when they’re stuck inside of your head.
7. Forget about Approval
Wear what you like. Listen to the music that you enjoy. Eat whatever tastes the best to you. If others judge you, ignore them. All that matters is that you’re happy with your decisions.
Happiness is a result of your thoughts. You’re in total control of your emotions, whether you believe it or not. What never fails to make you smile?
