It's time to give yourself a break. As adults, elders, millennials and maybe even children, sometimes we feel like we can take on more than we can handle. I like to remember my favorite quote when things get a little chaotic in my life. "Everything that you go through in life is temporary." Of course, fate wouldn't put you through anything you can't handle, but sometimes, don't you feel as if you just need a break from it all? Well you're not alone.
I turned 23 in April and I know the sucky feeling of adulting. Paying car insurance, student loans, and having to be tight with your money, knowing you want shrimp alfredo, but only have enough to afford the noodles. Having people ask you during Thanksgiving dinner if you're in a relationship, and how your career or schoolwork is going, knowing in the back of your head that you're single and lonely, with loads of assignments and debt. It drives me nuts. Sometimes I wish I could take a time machine back to the simple days of watching Even Stevens while my mom prepared my meals for me. If you also feel like this, it's time to give yourself a break.
When I was younger, I used to look at my Mom and Nana and be overly amazed by the way they could just magically come up with money for bills, food, clothes and toys. I used to think it was so easy being an adult. Truth be told, it was way easier being a kid. When you're in the midst of all the bullshit, stop and think to yourself. Do I really have time for this? Is this worth the stress? Will this moment be the cause of my wrinkles and bags in the next 50-60 years? I don't know about you all, but I know I want to be fine as wine by the time I hit that age. Now, I know you all are wondering, what can I do to get away? Truthfully, I don't know. I'm still trying to figure out myself. However, I will tell you this.
Releasing any unwanted energy from you mind, heart and spirit will leave you light on your toes. You will notice the relief of a weight that has been on your shoulders. Restless nights suddenly turn into energetic and optimistic mornings and after the day, we reflect on how relaxing and simple it was to wind down and actually care to yourself. We often become numb to the daily tackles of life, which means we are so used to inhaling all of our problems when we really need time to exhale as well. Life isn’t always rosy and some things may be out of our control, but it is up to us to renew our sanity. It gets lost among the ups and downs when we are caught up in our own lives and sometimes we have to pause and ask ourselves, “When is the last time I fully committed to my needs and happiness?"
Whatever it is you love to do, make sure you do that whenever you have free time. If you love going shopping, shop till you drop! If you love painting, go to a wine and paint shop. It's the perfect way to paint your feelings on paper while sipping your problems away! If you're more of an introvert like me, go to the beach or the park. Go somewhere quiet where you can enjoy the scenery and chill vibes. If you want to prance around butt naked in your house while blasting music, do so! There are a ton of things to do when you want to break free. Also, if your friends and family ask where you are going, don't make it an obligation to have to tell them every time. Don't feel guilty if you didn't tell them either. You need time to yourself just as they do themselves. Just remember, it's okay to be selfish because you spend the majority of your life being selfless without even realizing. So promise me, if you are super stressed out from your job, relationship, finances or just plain old life, do me a favor and TAKE A FREAKING BREAK!
