9 Positive Things You Can do to Balance Your Karma ...

By learning more about your own behavior, you discover some positive things you can do to balance your karma. Buddhists believe that every action is connected to future occurrences in interconnected lives, that what you put out into the universe comes back to you. I, personally, believe in karma and how it affects our lives; this is why I try daily to keep a good balance. Let's begin this journey together and learn what things you can do to balance your karma.

1. Gossip Gertie

I grew up in a small town in Alabama. Gossip was a common thing among women. I participated in it myself, like most women and some men. Then I realized that it was not among the things you can do to balance your karma, but eliminating it is. By gossiping, I was sharing parts of someone's life that was, basically, not any of my business, and equally I had no right in doing it. I learned that, ultimately, it made me feel bad when someone else talked about me behind my back, so I stopped. I don't need that negativity in my life; neither do you.

2. Liar, Liar Pants on Fire

Little white lies about forgetting to do a minor chore such as taking out the trash will not offset your karma. However, lying about major concepts will. I had to learn this one the hard way, myself. A friend of mine slid on a pair of jeans that were obviously too tight. I didn't want to hurt her feelings, so I lied and said that they looked fine even though the stitching looked like it was about to rip apart at the seams. She bent over while we were at the mall, and lo and behold—they tore all the way up the rear. I learned that being honest is always best, and sometimes it stops us from showing our rear—literally.

3. Alone but Not Forgotten

Some seniors living in nursing homes do not have family. No one comes to visit them, and they spend their days almost completely alone. It is a sad reality for them. By visiting with them, you can give them joy and the feeling that someone does care. You can also learn a great deal about life and the world around you.

4. Enriching Childhood

Each city has a big brother or sister club that provides children with a friend. These programs are operated on a volunteer-basis. This allows you to do your part, and it brings balance to your karma. You are being there for someone and presenting a positive role model for him or her. Some churches also provide these benefits for at-risk children who need further assistance in staying off the street.

5. Random Compliment

I do this all the time. I try to maintain a positive life and do good for others. Sometimes it is someone I encounter on the street or in a shopping mall, but I pay random compliments to strangers frequently. You never know when someone is having the worst day ever. And by saying something nice to them, you could make their day.

6. The Social Media over-share

I am guilty of this one. And I have learned—never share your frustrations online. Each one of us has experienced one of those days when a frenemy has really crawled under our skin. And at the moment of anger, there is that rant that is visible to hundreds of people. The lesson to learn here to balance out your karma is that doing this will not make you feel better ultimately. It just makes you look like a bully—and who wants that?

7. A Deed a Day

The careful balance of karma requires that everyone does something kind, even if it is only once a day. Maybe it is an elderly lady trying to load groceries into her car you choose to help, or a single mother who is at the end of her rope; you should choose to do one nice thing for someone. Regardless, this one deed will give you good vibes through karma that will help you have a great day.

8. One Donation, Please!

You can also balance your karma by helping the needy. Your local food bank takes donations each day. It is not necessary to spend large quantities of money to do your part. You could bring some food from your own cabinets to donate. Even a little each week, if you prefer, helps those who need a warm meal every day and do not have the means to take care of themselves. The goodness that comes from giving to the unfortunate draws in positive energy from the universe.

9. Let Us Give Thanks

Expressing your gratitude to the universe for all that you have is great for your karma. It allows you to show those you love most exactly what they mean to you. You can choose to offer up a random praise to each of them, or do something nice for them. For instance, when your child makes a good grade at school, prepare his or her favorite meal. Just a small gesture goes a long way.

Karma allows you to generate positive or negative energy into the universe. What you put in comes back at you and for this reason, it is always best to move toward good. What are some nice deeds that you have done that made you feel great?
