1. Acknowledge Your Achievements
Sometimes along the way, we forget about all of the things we have done, that we have achieved and that we have followed through until the end. Reconnect with yourself and remember all of those challenges that were met and accomplishments earned and avoid focusing on regret and things that you wanted to accomplish but didn’t. Remind yourself how far you have come, because that's one of the best ways to reconnect with your confident self.
2. Mingle
There is nothing worse for your confidence and self-esteem than to shy away from social events, friends and other people. Get out there, even when you don’t feel like it, and reconnect with yourself by spending time with your friends away from your home and work environment. There’s nothing like a few good laughs and the company of those who care for you to remind you that you are worth so much. When you feel better about yourself, your confidence will increase.
Frequently asked questions
3. Make Peace with Your past
Holding onto old hurts and failures will never allow you to feel confident. If you are hung up on things that happened so long ago, they are not even relevant to who you are now. Just let it go into the universe, make peace with what happened and if you were wrong, say sorry and just move on. Emotional baggage is one of the core focuses of low self-esteem and lack of confidence – get rid of whatever is holding you back.
4. Help Somebody else
Want to reconnect with yourself spiritually? Then there is no better way than to reach out and help someone in need. Help a friend who is struggling, assist a single parent with lifts, shopping or babysitting, spend time with a granny – take her to have her hair done, for tea or to visit her family. Volunteer at a charity, help out at an animal shelter – the list is endless. Seeing other people’s struggles is humbling and will remind you that you have lots to be thankful for.
5. Trust Yourself
Your intuition, 6th sense and gut feeling – those things are there for a reason – listen to them! There is no better way to build a better relationship with yourself than to learn to trust yourself and take your own advice first before you look for it elsewhere. Your gut feeling will never let you down. Build your own confidence by becoming your own best friend. After all, you and you alone know what is best for you.
6. Be Opinionated
That old saying of stand for something or else you will stand for nothing is so much more powerful than we think. Don’t be afraid to stand for something you believe in – even if you stand alone. Don’t compromise on your convictions, and express yourself – not everybody is going to like it, don’t let anyone bully you into not having a unique opinion of your own.
7. Better Late than Never
Been putting something off? There is no better way to increase your confidence than to do something that you have been putting off forever and follow through to the end to achieve your goals. Book a place on the foreign language course, study further, reconnect with an estranged family member, clear out that garage, get out of a dead end relationship and make the life you live the life that you want.
When you first started reading this, it is highly probable that you imagined the ways to reconnect with yourself were going to take a major effort. As you can see, there is effort, but it is more about having a positive attitude than tackling difficult issues. Do you need to reconnect with yourself and regain your lost confidence?
