How to Be in Total Control of Your Mind ...

Whether it's your parents, friends or your spouse, you might allow others to control your thinking and actions. At the end of the day, you are your own person. Therefore, you're free to make your own decisions about life. If you feel others are trying to control your thinking, here are seven ways to be in total control of your mind.

1. Know What You Want

People who control you might have your best interest in mind. For example, if you're indecisive, your parents might steer you in a particular direction. One of the best ways to be in complete control of your mind is to figure out what you want from life. Not what your parents want or what your spouse wants – but what you want. What will make you happy?

2. Don't Be Afraid to Be Your Own Person

You can also be in control of your mind by being your own person. Following the crowd might not take you far in life. I'm not saying you have to be the leader of your group. But you don't have to go along with everything your friends do or say.

3. Speak up when You Don't like Something

If you're timid or non-confrontational, it can be hard to stick up for yourself in certain situations. Some people might take advantage of you, but you can break the cycle by making your voice heard. Your opinion matters.

4. Don't Listen to Negative Talk

Being around negative people can bring you down. They might talk negatively about life or work. Soon, you might adopt their way of thinking or mindset. Don't let others fill your head with negative information. If someone complains about life, steer the conversation in a positive direction. You might have to limit contact with people who always have something negative to say.

5. Don't Stand for Gossip

Some people will pull you into gossip. It's easy to get caught in these conversations. But if you allow nosy people to control how you feel about others, you're giving this person control over your mind. It can be hard to walk away from juicy information. However, nothing good ever comes from gossiping.

6. Learn from Your Own Experiences

If you want to pursue a certain path in life, some might say it's a bad idea. Maybe they've had a bad experience and they're trying to protect you. While their concerns are understandable, your experience might be completely different. For that matter, don't be afraid to take risks with regard to your own life.

7. Recognize Forms of Manipulation

Another way to be in total control of your mind is to recognize when others are manipulating you. A manipulator will maneuver situations to get what they want. A manipulator may get in your head and influence how you feel about different things. These people are clever and sneaky, so you should keep your eyes opened and realize when people are taking advantage of your kindness.

As someone who's in total control of your mind, you'll make decisions about your life based on what you want, and you'll form opinions about others based on your personal experiences.
