Feeling empowered and encouraged starts with listening to some tips from successful people. In order to act like a successful person, you need to think like a successful person. This year, try incorporating these tips from successful people who have helped shape our world and will inspire you to shape yours!
One of the most important tips from successful people is to find a mentor. Any successful person will agree and stress the importance of finding someone to assist you in your journey. Nobody should walk through something alone and the best news is that you don’t have to! There is always someone who has been there and done that who can take you under their wing and teach you the ropes!
How easy would it be to just quit something? Very. Do you know the expression "Rome wasn’t built in one day"? The truth is that it wasn’t – it took time and persistence. Never give up, otherwise you will never be able to say at least you tried. When things get challenging or difficult, surround yourself with positive people, songs, movies, or quotes.
Taking responsibility for yourself will encourage you to take care of yourself and your task at hand. Leaders do not play the blame game because ultimately, blaming others and not being responsible for your own actions result in zero productivity. To get yourself ahead, be truthful and open to communicating your actions with yourself as well as others.
Give yourself goals and dreams that are challenging yet realistic. Competition makes the world go ‘round: if you approach a situation with the intention to do your best and give something your all, you will always be successful no matter what. Will you disappoint yourself sometimes? Yes. Should you let that stop you? No. Always keep your head up and look for ways to push yourself just a step further than you were the day before!
Every successful person will tell you that the secret to happiness and success is to be a great leader by assisting others through encouragement. Being an encouragement to others will not only help them but will also help you. If you are able to teach or aid in developing a team of people then you are ultimately coaching and further training yourself, too. Plus, once you develop and build a really strong team of people, they will in turn help you become a really strong leader of the next big company one day! Who knows?
Fear is the root of all evil. Replace fear with love: love yourself, love your team, love your opportunity, and love your challenge. If you are afraid to approach or deal with a difficult situation, you are intentionally choosing to sit on the sidelines and watch someone else live your dream. Don’t let that happen! If you thought of something that you want to do, make sure to follow through and not be afraid to take a leap of faith. You will never know unless you try. Fear is just a state of mind; don’t let it rule over your life.
This particular tip is from Steve Jobs himself. Clearly, Steve was a man who lived this out firsthand. He did not need others telling him what not to do or what to do, he simply did what he loved to do. This can be one of the easiest yet most difficult hurdles to overcome. Sometimes we focus too heavily on loving an idea of something or loving what others envision for us to do in our lives. Me for example, I fell in love with the idea of wanting to pursue finance as a career. When I was honest with myself that I didn’t want to do finance because I didn’t LOVE it, I then found something that I love to do. Do what YOU love.
I cannot stress the importance of networking enough. One of the biggest lessons I learned in my business school during my college years was how to network and why to network. I was able to see and meet numerous successful people and learn so much about them and learn so much from them. Therefore, put yourself out there! Attend an event or connect with people on LinkedIn or attend a school networking reception. Successful people will always surround themselves with like-minded people. Go join them!
Time is such a double edged sword. If you keep time too closely to your emotions, you will never feel ready enough or feel that you have enough time to dive into your dreams. This is your year! Take this new opportunity this year to dive into what really drives and motivates you the most. What are you passionate about? What gets you excited? What is something that you’ve wanted to do or get accomplished for months/years? Don’t wait!
Most people can be very unsupportive or become your worst distraction. Don’t let others bring you down; be your own cheerleader. If you believe in something strongly enough, no storm or trial will ever stop you from achieving your dreams! Being your best cheerleader means: bringing yourself up when others bring you down; surrounding yourself with like-minded people; reading stories about people who have made it through tough times; encouraging yourself with uplifting music and quotes; repeating positive mantras throughout the day about how awesome you are!
