If your most important goal in life is to be successful and to achieve all your dreams, then you should watch out for those toxic habits that might kill your motivation and that in the long term, may prevent you from achieving your objective. I couldn’t agree more with Lou Holtz who said that “Your talent determines what you can do. Your motivation determines how much you are willing to do. Your attitude determines how well you do it.” With the right attitude and with a bit of motivation, you can do whatever you dream of, no matter how impossible or crazy that thing may seem. Here are a few toxic habits that kill motivation that you should try to avoid.

1. You Don’t Believe in Yourself
In my opinion, this is definitely one of the most toxic habits you need to get rid of in order to live truly happy and free of any worries. By always doubting yourself, you’ll only waste your time and your energy without actually doing anything to reach your goals. Trust yourself and your abilities more and learn to love and accept yourself just the way you are! If you work hard enough and if you have faith in your abilities, there’s nothing you can’t accomplish.
2. You Pursue Perfection
You’ll only sabotage yourself and you’ll definitely kill your motivation by always trying to be perfect. Do not be afraid to fail sometimes because failure can be the best teacher you’ll ever have and you will learn best by making all sorts of mistakes. Don’t let this dysfunctional belief prevent you from reaching your goals! Work hard, be patient and I’m sure you’ll fulfill all your dreams!

3. You Multitask
Another bad habit that may prevent you from achieving your full potential is trying to do too many things at once. Multitasking can be very exhausting sometimes because it’s so, so demanding and you will only stress yourself out without getting anything done properly. So, if you have a few tasks to complete, just focus and take care of each one at a time.
4. You Compare Yourself to Others
Avoid comparing yourself to other people if you want to be successful, because by doing it, you’ll easily lose all your motivation and you’ll also feel extremely discouraged. Instead, you could try to find out what makes other people so good at what they do and follow their example. Keep your goals in mind and don’t let anything distract you when you are trying to achieve your dreams!
5. You Haven’t Figured out What Your Goals Are
Another dangerous habit that will kill all your motivation and sabotage your happiness is not having figured out what your goals are and that you basically don’t know what you want to achieve in life. Just like Kelsie Fannon, journalist and blogger for lifehack.org said “Not having goals is like trying to find a new restaurant without an address. You might luck into it every once in a while, but you will be stuck wandering most of the time.”.
6. You Procrastinate a Lot
I must admit that I am guilty of this and sometimes, it really prevents me from reaching my objectives. This is a very tricky habit because you won’t even notice that you are doing it until it’s too late and you don’t have any more time to take care of your tasks. Don’t let it affect your motivation. Get organized, make a schedule and stick to it even if you don’t like it at first; you will at least get things done in time and you’ll avoid all the unnecessary stress associated with this behavior.
7. You Don’t Get Enough Sleep
Don’t forget to rest from time to time and always get at least 7 or even 8 hours of sleep every night. By doing this, you will feel more refreshed, you will be able to concentrate better on your tasks and you will be more efficient. Also, while you are working, don’t forget to take a few breaks every now and then, so you will be able to finish all your work without losing all your motivation.
8. You Get Distracted
Don’t let anything distract you and prevent you from reaching your objectives! These days especially, there are a lot of things that might seem a lot more interesting than what you have to do, but you should learn to say no to them and stick to your schedule every time you work on a project. When you work, shut down your TV or even unplug the Internet cable if you have to. Don’t get distracted and lose all your motivation.
9. You Can’t Seem to Find New Ideas
Do you have trouble finding new ideas? Well, this could affect your motivation too and just like Kelsie Fannon said “If motivation is gas, new ideas are the gas pump. By reading, thinking, and talking to others you will discover new ideas and make connections to old ideas. This way you can solve problems and your tank will stay full.”
There are a lot of toxic habits that could kill your motivation if you don’t pay enough attention to them. Recognize and avoid them, so they won’t prevent you from reaching your goals and fulfilling your dreams. Do you know any other bad habits that can kill your motivation?
