Okay so before you roll your eyes to the number of times you might have read the word โ€œhappyโ€, take some time to think about why we take so long to answer the โ€œare you happyโ€ question.

Sometimes the topic of happiness creates certain uneasiness inside of us because there are times in our life that we just donโ€™t get the whole โ€œbe happyโ€ thing even when we have everything to be happy for.

So here are some things that I learned about this word.

ITโ€˜S MORE SIMPLE THAN YOU THINK

In psychology, happiness is a mental or emotional state of well-being which can be defined by, among others, positive or pleasant emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy.

With this definition, you might think: okay, but how do I make this emotion stronger and more present in my life? and actually you can by choosing to feel this emotion every day, and now itโ€™s when things get trickier.

1. PRACTICE BEING GRATEFUL

Every time something bad happens in your life or if youโ€™re having a bad day, or you just feel like everything is falling apart, think about something that makes you happy and be grateful for it! And I mean seriously appreciate things like the fact that you are alive and breathing and reading this because some people donโ€™t know how clean air feels like or donโ€™t know how to read. You would be surprised by how often we think and worry about negative things without realizing it and get stuck with them and forget to do it with the positive things as well.

2. BE in TUNE with WHAT YOUR BODY NEEDS

We donโ€™t listen to our bodies like we should. Maybe you donโ€™t sleep the hours you need, or skip meals and workouts, smoke, or just forget about your body because your busy lifestyle leaves you with no time for stuff. Let me tell you, your body pays the bill for this. It doesnโ€™t matter if you donโ€™t realize it, you will come to an age that you will and youโ€™re gonna regret not changing it before. Try to take at least 10 minutes daily to just breathe in and out, put on some relaxing music and think about nice things, like your favorite place in the world or a memory that makes you smile. Disconnect your mind for a bit and concentrate on your body and how your heart beats and your lungs feel with air.

3. And the MOST IMPORTANT THING

Be happy because you deserve to be happy and nothing that you experience, as sad as you might feel sometimes, without bad days we wouldnโ€™t feel the wonderful emotions that we were made to feel.

So embrace it and search for experiences and things to be happy for, because we only have one life to live and we have the choice of being happy every time we open our eyes to a new day, so be grateful that you CAN choose to feel it! you always can donโ€™t forget that.
