1. Give More Compliments
One of the simplest things we can do to make life easier for each other is to give more genuine compliments. Make the people around you feel good about themselves and remind them how wonderful they really are. They will gain more confidence in their abilities and you will help them increase their self-esteem. I believe that everyone is capable of doing extraordinary things; they just don’t know it yet or they are just too afraid to try. Encourage them to follow their dreams and help them see how amazing they really are.
2. Have More Patience
Another thing you should do in order to make the people around you feel better is to have more patience, especially when you are waiting in line or even when you are expecting something from them. Don’t be rude and don’t tell other people what to do and when to do it, unless you are their boss. For example, when you are waiting in line at your local grocery store, the cashier may be moving as fast as they can, but complaining won’t make things go faster. You will only annoy everyone around you and you will make the cashier feel bad about themselves. Have a little more patience and think about other people’s feelings too!
Frequently asked questions
3. Don’t Be Mean!
Even if someone did something that upset you, don’t be mean to them and make things worse. Show them you are a mature and responsible adult and behave in a more assertive manner. Tell them politely how their actions affected you and don’t allow them to ruin your day. Also, don’t be mean, especially when you are online. If you don’t like something or you don’t agree with what someone said, just ignore it and move on. There’s no point in saying mean things about someone, especially when you don’t know all the details of that situation.
4. Be Kind to People Who Work in Retail!
Always be kind to people who work in retail and food service! I’m not saying you shouldn’t be nice to everyone, just that people are more inclined to be rude with the people who work in these industries. I used to work in retail when I was in college and I was quite surprised to find out how many rude and obnoxious people are out there and how badly they treat salespeople. It’s not so easy to work in this field. You have a lot of things to take care of, you don’t earn much money, you have to work long hours and you have to deal with all kind of rude comments every day, even if you are not to blame. So, in my opinion this is definitely one of the simplest things you can do to make other people feel better and it doesn’t even require a lot of effort.
5. Smile
Always put a big smile on your face, even if you don’t feel like it and you won’t only brighten up your day, but you will make other people feel better as well. I know that sometimes is pretty hard to smile, especially when things are not going according to plan, yet you should make an effort and smile, because just like yawning, smiling is also contagious. Just fake it till you make it and you will see that you will not only make others feel better, you will feel more optimistic as well.
In addition to brightening up our own day and making others feel better, smiling has been scientifically proven to have numerous health benefits. It can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and boost the immune system. Smiling also releases endorphins, which are natural mood-boosters and can help alleviate feelings of depression and anxiety. Furthermore, studies have shown that people who smile are perceived as more attractive and confident, making it a great tool for building positive relationships. So even when things may not be going as planned, remember to put on a smile and spread some positivity and health benefits to those around you.
6. Listen to What Others Tell You
Learn to be more patient and really listen to what other people tell you. There is a big difference between hearing and listening, so show interest for what people are telling you, ask questions and clarify any possible misunderstanding. Offer them your advice but only if they require such a thing from you. Most of the time, people just need someone to listen to them, to accept them just the way they are and to not try to change them.
7. Express Gratitude
Always say “please” and “thank you” and always express your gratitude! Show other people that you appreciate their help, even if what they did wasn’t such a big thing. Just use these simple words more often and bring joy to other people lives. You can really brighten up their day by being more polite, so what are you waiting for? Start expressing your gratitude and your appreciation more often!
There are a lot of things we can do to make life easier for each other. I just mentioned a few in this little article, but I’m sure there are many more I could add to this list.
