1. Avoid Growing up Too Fast

As I observe the younger generations, I begin to notice one pattern and it is that they are growing up way too fast. They are cutting down their years of innocence and instead wishing that they were older. Girls begin to experiment with make up and heels before they had enough playtime with barbies and guys tend to emulate those older than themselves. Wasting your youth is really unfortunate, so all you can do now is do things that are age appropriate for you instead of moving on to things that can wait in the future.

Cherish the playful moments and lighthearted experiences that are fundamental to your childhood and teenage years. It's crucial to embrace this time of growth and discovery without the rush to adopt adult responsibilities. Hold onto the joy in every spontaneous adventure, treasure the carefree laughter with friends, and allow yourself the freedom to explore the world with wide-eyed wonder. Remember, once these years slip by, they are gone forever. Savor them, and let the future unfold in its own time.

2. Don’t Take on Bad Habits

One of the things that I have never quite understood is why teenagers get hooked on alcoholic substances and drugs before they even know what it is. Yes, teenage years are the period of experimentation but that doesn’t mean that doing drugs and drinking alcohol is the way to have fun! More than anything it prevents you from remembering the moments you’ve had and stands in the way of controlling yourself. So instead of passing out every day, the best way to make your youth worthwhile is staying above the influence.

Frequently asked questions

It's all about setting goals that excite you and help you grow. Find activities that you are passionate about and invest your time in them. Surround yourself with supportive friends and mentors.

Absolutely not! It's never too late to start making positive changes. Every small step towards your goal counts. Focus on the present and future, not the past.

Travel, learn new skills, volunteer, read a lot, and take care of your health. These experiences can greatly enhance your life and prevent feelings of regret later on.

Yes, it can! It's easy to get caught up in comparing your life to others’. Try to use social media mindfully and limit your screen time to enjoy real-life experiences more.

Focus on personal growth, building meaningful relationships, exploring your interests, and staying true to yourself. It’s important to strike a balance between fun and responsibility.

3. Forgive Those around You

Although it is easier said than done, holding grudges can never lead to anything positive. Especially during the period of adolescence, you are more than likely to face a lot of drama in your daily life, so in order to avoid it and really take the best out of those years, it is better to learn to let go of your grudges. Although it may be impossible in some moments, it will be for your benefit in the long term.

4. Grab onto Opportunities

During our early years, we are always hesitant to make moves and take on opportunities, but we fail to realize that those opportunities may never come in the future. So if you are now facing a dilemma, take a risk and see where it takes you. Although you have many years ahead of you, some things come just once in a lifetime and you can’t let them slip out of your hands.

Taking that leap of faith may feel like stepping into the unknown, but embracing uncertainty is a hallmark of youth. Boldly pursuing what excites you creates a path of rich experiences and learning. Remember, the regret of missed chances can weigh heavier than the fear of failure. So, whether it's a new hobby, a job opportunity, or an adventure with friends, embrace it wholeheartedly. Your future self will thank you for the courage you showed today, forging a life filled with purpose and passion.

5. Be Adventurous

We all have those days when we want to cut off the outside world and have some alone time and even though that is completely normal, we shouldn’t be used to it. Your early years are when your body is at your peak, therefore it is the best time to take on a sport, go on an adventure or do something risky. As you grow older you might not have time for adventures or your body will be incapable of some things, so take advantage of what you have right now! But remember, just because you are young doesn’t mean you are indestructible.

Exploring your passions can lead to a world of excitement and self-discovery. Whether it's trying out rock climbing, embarking on a backpacking trip, or taking up a new creative hobby, these experiences shape your character and expand your horizons. It’s not just about the adrenaline rush—adventurous activities can also foster resilience and adaptability. So, dare to step out of your comfort zone. Create stories that you’ll tell for years to come and form memories that will become the colorful backdrop of your youth.

6. Don’t Procrastinate

Your lifelong habits usually get instilled into your character early on, so that means every bad habit that you practice today will translate into your future if you don’t do something about it. Oftentimes we procrastinate thinking we will always have time later but as I have said before, sometimes you have to seize you opportunities or you will never get the chance to complete them.

Procrastination is one of the most common mistakes young people make, and it can have a serious impact on their lives. Putting off important tasks or decisions can lead to missed opportunities, wasted time, and even regret. Unfortunately, procrastination can be a difficult habit to break, and it can be easy to fall into the trap of “I’ll do it later.”

However, it’s important to remember that procrastination can have serious consequences. It can lead to missed deadlines, unfinished projects, and a lack of motivation. It can also lead to stress and anxiety, as tasks pile up and deadlines loom.

The good news is that it is possible to break the cycle of procrastination. The first step is to identify why you are procrastinating. Is it because you don’t know how to start a task, or because you are afraid of failure? Once you understand why you are procrastinating, you can begin to develop strategies to overcome it.

7. Value Your Parents

One of the most unfortunate truths is that our parents will not always be in our lives. As we get older so do our parents and just like anyone else, they are not immortal. So instead of pushing them away during your teenage years and craving independence from them, you should value the moments of yours and their youth and make memories. You never want to live in regret and look back onto your life wishing you spent more time with them.

Looking back onto your youth with regret might be one of the worst feelings to experience, so if you are still in your younger years, take advantage of your time and make it worth it. No matter how cliché it sounds, live in the moment instead of dwelling on the future or the past. What advice would you give to your younger self if you had the chance?
