In this article I would like to share with you a few very effective ways to be persistent that will help you reach your goals and achieve all your dreams. Persistence is one of the most admirable character traits a person can possess, because it’s precisely that ability to accomplish all your plans regardless of any setbacks you might encounter along the way. I love this quote by Bertrand Russell who said that “No great achievement is possible without persistent work. “. Also, being perseverant means not letting anything get in the way of your success. This attitude can become a bit irritating to the ones around you, so you should always pay attention not to cross that thin line between being persistent and being annoying. Here are a few pretty easy ways to be persistent that I hope you will find useful.

1 Identify Your Dreams

The first step you should take in order to learn about all the very effective ways to be persistent is to identify your desires and to discover what your dreams really are. Lawrence J. Peter said “If you don’t know where you are going, you will probably end up somewhere else” and I also agree with this inspiring quote by Milton Erickson, the famous hypnotherapist who thought that “A goal without a date is just a dream”. Try writing down on a little piece of paper all the things you want to accomplish, all the plans you have, no matter how impossible they might seem to you at the moment. The fist step is to acknowledge them and the rest will come easy if you work hard enough.

2 Use Humor

The best way to avoid annoying other people with your persistence is by using your humor to face the most difficult situations you will encounter along the way. I’m not telling you to become a comedian, just to lighten up the atmosphere when things become way too serious. It will be good for you as well as for other people. You will feel more relaxed and refreshed and you’ll also be able to focus much better on your tasks.

3 Break down Your Goals into Smaller Targets

A big dream might seem scary sometimes and that’s why the best way to approach this situation is by breaking down your goal into smaller targets. Take one step at a time because smaller pieces are easier to manage and you won’t feel overwhelmed by their difficulty. Your work will also be more effective this way, since you won’t feel as tired and worried as those big plans use to make you feel.

4 Keep a Positive Mental Attitude

The road to success is not always easy; you might have to face a lot of challenges, so it’s always best to be prepared for anything before going on some wonderful adventure. You will face all sorts of difficulties and you might even fail sometimes but you shouldn’t let yourself get discouraged. Try to keep a positive mental attitude and work hard in order to reach your goals. Don’t let all the fears or doubts get to you! Stay positive, look on the bright side of things and will see how easy it will be to accomplish all your dreams.

5 Build Your Mastermind Group

If you didn’t know this already (I must admit I didn’t) a Mastermind Group is actually a group composed of people who can help you succeed in reaching your objective. That’s why it’s really important to choose the right people that will make up this group, since you wouldn’t want to have any bad influences around. If possible, try avoiding the negative folks because you will only waste your time by listening to their complaints.

6 Develop Discipline

I must confess that this is one of the things that I really need to work on and I must turn it into a habit if I want to achieve all my objectives. Jim Rohn said that “Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment” and he couldn’t be more right. Without discipline you won’t be able to stay on your path to success so that is why it is extremely important to carefully plan every single step you take and to be prepared for anything you might encounter along the way.

7 Watch out for Excuses

Sometimes it’s easier and more convenient to find excuses for your behavior than to take some action to try to solve your problems. Persistence is also “getting yourself to do something you don’t necessary want to do”. Take a step out of your comfort zone and face all the challenges you might encounter. Don’t come up with excuses and don’t avoid responsibility!
