1. Get a Good Night's Sleep
“Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.” – Benjamin Franklin
To start off the list of quotes about living healthy, I decided to pick a quote by one of the men I admire most. Benjamin Franklin knew that the key to all happiness and health starts with a good night's sleep. That is something I try to live by everyday by getting at least 8 hours of sleep.
2. Your Body is a Temple
“Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live.” – Jim Rohn
This is incredibly true! We only have one body, and one life to live in it, so we need to take care of it!
Frequently asked questions
3. Harmony
“Healthy is a state of complete harmony of the body, mind, and spirit.” – B.K.S Lyengar
These three components - body, mind, and spirit - really do make up what we call "good health." They're all three so important, too!
4. Value It
“Health is like money, we never have a true idea of its value until we lose it.” – Josh Billings
Actually, I'd like to keep both my health and my money. How about you?
5. Healthcare Reform
“True healthcare reform starts in your kitchen, not in Washington.” – Anonymous
Regardless of how you feel about the Affordable Care Act, you have to know that your good health starts with your diet. Sure, healthcare is important, but so is taking responsibility for eating well.
6. It’s Not Easy
“The only way to keep your health is to eat what you don’t want, drink what you don’t like, and do what you’d rather not.” – Mark Twain
In other words, eat your veggies, drink water (not margaritas), and exercise instead of sitting on the couch.
7. Keep an Interest in Life
“To insure good health: eat lightly, breathe deeply, live moderately, cultivate cheerfulness, and maintain an interest in life.” – William Londen
This is all such good advice! I especially like the bit about cheerfulness. It's so true!
8. Laughter is the Best Medicine
“A good laugh and a long sleep are the best cures in the doctor’s book.” – Irish Proverb
Is there anything that can't be cured by a nap and a good laugh? I don't think so.
9. Exercise is Key
“Those who do not have the time for exercise will have to find the time for illness.” – Edward Smith-Stanley
Again, this is totally true. If your excuse for not working out is that you don't have time, you need to make it... because being sick, or chronically ill with diabetes, sure does take time, too.
10. Health & Happiness
“The groundwork of all happiness is health.” – Leigh Hunt
Short and sweet and completely true! If you want to be happy, get healthy! It's easier to be a happy person when you're not in constant pain or feeling sluggish because you're not fit.
11. Food Makes a Difference
“The food you eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison.” – Dr. Ann Wigmore
Scary, but true! If you eat healthful foods, you'll be healthy. But if you eat junk, you really are just slowly poisoning yourself!
12. Time Changes What We Eat
“About 80% of the food on shelves of supermarkets today didn’t exists 100 years ago.” – Larry McCleary
This is scary too... what did people eat in 1913? Veggies. Water. Lean meats. Certainly not fattening, sodium-laden Chef Boyardee.
13. Processed Foods
“Processed foods not only extend the shelf life but they extend the waistline as well.” – Karen Sessions
Oh, yes. This is so true! Food in cans and boxes, like Spaghetti Os and Hamburger Helper, are loaded with nasty chemicals to make them last longer and taste better, but they're so bad for you!
14. Action Speaks Louder
“Thinking about working out burns 0 calories, 0 percentage of fat, and accomplishes 0 goals.” – Gwen Ro
I like this one! And it's true. THINKING about doing something won't help much. Go DO something!
15. Diet Pills Don’t Work
“No diet pill in the world can replace the benefits of exercise and eating right.” – Anonymous
In other words, there are no shortcuts. If you want to be fit, you have to follow a healthy diet and exercise regularly. The end.
16. Inside out
“A healthy outside starts from the inside.” – Robert Urich
This sounds like something you'd tell your kids! But it's great for us grown-ups, too.
17. Environment Makes All the Difference
“Healthy people are those who live in healthy homes on a healthy diet; in an environment equally fit for birth, growth, work, healing, and dying.” – Ivan Illich
This one speaks for itself.
18. Listen to Your Body
“What the public expects and what is healthy for an individual are two very different things.” – Esther Williams
Again, this goes back to personal accountability and responsibility. Take your health and wellness seriously; it doesn't really matter to anyone else!
19. Live Well
“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.” – Virginia Woolf
She's right! If you eat junk, you won't be at your best. If you eat well, you'll be on your game.
20. Wealth in LIfe
“The greatest wealth is health.” – Anonymous
And last but not least, an easy one, but one that's also completely true. You can have all the money in the world, but you'll be miserable if you're not healthy.
