That moment when you just feel like giving up can feel completely overwhelming. A lack of motivation can be damaging, whether it relates to your personal life, your professional life, or both. Many of us go through periods where nothing seems to go right, but the worst thing to do in moments like that is to give in to that negative voice and stop trying. Human nature is resilient; use these tips and pieces of advice to prepare for those moments when you feel like quitting.

1. Realistic Expectations

It is important to maintain realistic expectations in your life. Being a perfectionist isn't inherently bad, but when it leads to constant feelings of failure, it can become detrimental. Take a look at people in similar situations to your own—are your expectations wildly higher than theirs? Try to be a little kinder to yourself and readjust your goals to be more achievable.

2. Positive Reminders

It can be very easy to lose sight of the bigger picture during a rough patch. Sometimes a bad day forces you to forget about the things that are still going well. For example, a difficult day at work has no bearing on the fact that you have a wonderful support system of family and friends. During your lower moments, remind yourself exactly why you started this journey. Think about the goals you're working toward and the quality time you'll spend with loved ones.

3. The Calm After the Storm

Just when things seem at their lowest point, remember that this is often a temporary phase. As the old saying goes, it’s always darkest before the dawn. Keep pushing forward, stay focused, and trust that you have the strength to come out the other side stronger.
