It's time for all of us to learn how to stop comparing yourself to other women.

For some reason women all over the world seem to feel the need to constantly compare themselves to other women. No matter what age you are and what your circumstances in life, you always find a way to single out another individual or even every other woman to compare your success, failures and everything in between.

Sometimes this kind of exercise can be affirming, but more often than not, all that comparing yourself to another person can do is make you feel bad about yourself and dent your self-esteem, which may already be low (we women do like to bash ourselves!) I think that the less this happens, the healthier you will feel emotionally. Here are a few handy tips for how to stop comparing yourself to other women.

Build Your Self-Esteem

The happier and more content a person is, the less likely they are to want to constantly compare their life and circumstances with another person. If you have a healthy relationship with your own value as a woman and worth as a human being, then you won’t need to seek affirmation in comparisons with others. Self-esteem can be built through many things like exercise, diet, mediation, even massage and great sex! That's your best answer to how to stop comparing yourself to other women.

2

Stay Grounded

Try not to get too big for your boots, as they say. The more inflated a person’s ego is, the more dangerous it can be if you compare yourself with somebody else to find that the results are not in your favour. Stay as grounded as possible and your jealousy will stay at a minimum.

3

Set Small Goals

If you set small goals for yourself that you can realistically achieve, you won’t have to keep comparing yourself negatively to other women who seem to be able to breeze through life with no problem at all. Work at achieving your own small goals, rather than being jealous of others.

4

Celebrate Your Wins

Take the time to celebrate the achievements in your life, no matter how small they seem. The more you celebrate, the more your self esteem will grow, and the less likely you are going to be to searching elsewhere for deliberately harmful comparisons.

5

Stay True to Yourself

Don’t set out on a personal journey that you aren’t passionate about because you will only end up comparing yourself to people who are passionate about it, and you will be disheartened by your lack of progress compared to theirs.

Embrace Your Uniqueness

The key detrimental factor of comparing yourself to other women is that it takes away all of the great unique things that you bring to your own life. By aspiring to be like somebody else, you are ignoring and burying everything about you that makes you you! Once you start to recognise that you need to own your own story rather than try to copy someone else’s, your entire mind set is likely to change. You may even find that people start comparing themselves to you rather than the other way around!
