If you want to avoid feeling stressed when you have too much work to do and too little time to complete it, then you should definitely learn to improve your time management skills. You need to organize your tasks and plan your time more efficiently, so you will be able to get more things done every day, feeling more relaxed at the same time. You will need to have a little patience to develop this skill because significant changes can’t happen overnight since you’ll have to discover what works best for you. You could just try a variety of approaches, since what could work best for your friend might not be so suitable for you. Always keep in mind the benefits of managing your time in a more efficient way because they are countless: you’ll avoid procrastination, you will worry less about your deadlines and you will increase your productivity. Here are a few very useful ways to improve your time management skills if you want to be more successful:
1. Avoid Multitasking
In my opinion, the most efficient of the ways to improve your time management skills is to avoid multitasking. Everyone thinks that they can take care of multiple tasks at the same time. Well, most of them are wrong. You might be able to do more things at once, but you will not do them properly and you will only feel more stressed and tired afterwards, since you will put a lot of energy into it. Just schedule your tasks, concentrate on one thing at a time and you will definitely improve your time management skills and you will also increase your productivity.
2. Make Lists
Just write down what you have to do during the day in a notebook or planner and you will see things more clearly. You will be able to organize your tasks much better and you can prioritize them based on their importance. You could even set reminders on your phone or on your computer. This tip really works and it offers spectacular results every single time, so give it a try the next time you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed.
3. Set Personal Deadlines
In order to manage your time more efficiently, you could even set a personal deadline a few days before a task needs to be done and try to stick to it. This will require a bit of exercise and a lot of patience on your behalf, because just like any other skill, you’ll need some time to develop it. Make sure you set a realistic deadline, challenge yourself to meet it and then reward yourself.
4. Avoid Procrastination
I know it sounds rather hard to achieve, but it’s actually not impossible to learn how to avoid procrastination and how to be more self-disciplined. Procrastination is actually one of the main things that affect and decrease your productivity and it can be a major problem both in your career and in your personal life. There are a lot of books you can read on this topic, so get rid of this bad habit and don’t let it affect your performance at work or at home!
5. Reward Yourself
Every time you accomplish something, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, just reward yourself. It’s extremely important to do that every time you succeed in doing something, because you will be more motivated to reach all your goals and you will focus much better on what you have to do to accomplish them.
6. Prepare in Advance
Another best way to manage your time efficiently is by planning ahead what you want to do the next day, during the coming week or why not, during that month. You will be more organized and you will know what you have to do each day to accomplish your goals. Just plan your day the night before and you will avoid feeling stressed and exhausted the next day.
7. Start Early
If you want to get more things done, then just wake-up early and start working on them. This way, you will have more time to plan your actions, to schedule your tasks and to prioritize them based on their importance. Most successful people go to bed at a reasonable hour and get up early because this way they feel more energized and they have the possibility to get more things done. Apparently, when you wake up early, you feel calmer, you tend to see things more clearly and you are more creative throughout the day. Just give it a try for a little why and see for yourself how much this simple thing will improve your time management skills.
These were my tips for learning how to manage your time more efficiently, but I’m sure there are many more I haven’t mentioned. Can you give me a hand and tell me what other things should I add to this list? I can’t wait to hear more from you, so please share your thoughts with us in the comments section!
