7 Ways to Stop Hating Yourself and Putting Yourself down ...

When you feel like your life is going downhill, there are ways to stop hating yourself. You don’t deserve harsh criticism, especially from your own mind. If you want to be happy, you have to accept whom you are, and even be proud of her! If you’re struggling to find inner peace, here are a few ways to stop hating yourself:

1. Look at the Good

(Your reaction) Thank you!

Sure, you have a few traits that you dislike, but there are also tons of great things about you. Maybe it’s your smile or the way that you’re always able to make your friends smile. One of the ways to stop hating yourself is by focusing on the positive instead of the negative. Whether or not you have a long list of qualities about yourself that you like, you should at least be able to think of one good thing. Once you do, never forget it!

2. Look at Your Friends

(Your reaction) Thank you!

Don’t you have amazing friends? Instead of feeling inferior to them, think about how lucky you are to have them. Would smart, funny people keep in touch with you if you were so unlovable? Of course not. The fact that you have wonderful friends shows how wonderful you are!

3. Compare past to Present

(Your reaction) Thank you!

If you see a gorgeous girl, don’t compare yourself to her. Everyone has lived a different life, so it’s not fair to compete with her. Instead, compare yourself to your past self, and be proud of how much you’ve grown as a person.

4. Be Productive

(Your reaction) Thank you!

If you hate your laziness or lack of success, force yourself to do something productive. It doesn’t have to be anything huge. You can simply do some chores. Go clean your room or rearrange the furniture in the living room. Throw out the spoiled food in the fridge or take your dog for a walk. Anything will do.

5. Leave Your Comfort Zone

(Your reaction) Thank you!

If you hate yourself, there must be a reason. Are you annoyed by your shyness? Leave the house and strike up a conversation with a stranger. Are you frustrated by your dwindling paychecks? Sell some of your old items on the Internet. Pinpoint whatever you dislike about yourself, and strive to change it.

6. Find Someone to Relate to

Find a book with a main character that you identify with, or listen to a song with lyrics you can relate to. By knowing that you’re not the only one who feels the way that you do, you’ll be more comfortable in your skin. Plus, it’s the perfect excuse to relax a bit. Who would refuse the chance to turn up the radio or flip through a novel?

7. Leave Daily Reminders

(Your reaction) Thank you!

What time of day is the most difficult for you? If it’s hard to get out of bed in the mornings, set an alarm on your phone that includes a happy reminder like “You’re beautiful,” or “Your family loves you.” If school or work is stressful, you can write the same types of reminders on sticky notes or inside of your notebook. They’ll help you remember that you’re an amazing, valuable person.

Hatred is dangerous and destructive, especially when it's aimed at yourself. If you were to write a daily reminder to yourself, what would it say? Remember to keep it positive!
