7 Ways to Shake up Your Social Life ...

The sun is shining here in the UK (and hopefully in other parts of the world too) and it's the perfect time to shake up your social life. Whether you're happily single, looking for love or coupled up, having an active social life and a circle of friends to support you is vital, so here are my favourite ways to shake up your social life this summer!

1. Join a Club

(Your reaction) Thank you!

Or a group; you know - something social where you'll meet people! This could be anything from book club to a group that meets up for photography sessions or walking tours of your city. Or a sports club! Joining something is a great way to shake up your social life and meet new people, and the best part? They'll share your interests so you already have something in common!

2. Take up a Sport

(Your reaction) Thank you!

Whether you've always wanted to try rock climbing or fancy a competitive game of squash, taking up a new sport and joining a club is a great way to improve your social life. Team sports may make it easier to socialise, although even activities like rock climbing will help you to meet friendly new faces, particularly if you book a taster session with other terrified newbies!

3. Switch off the TV

(Your reaction) Thank you!

The summer months are a great time to turn off the TV, put your PC to sleep and get out there! Just by leaving the house and doing something on your days off you're boosting your social life. You may not meet anyone new, but getting out and about is healthy and gives you a confidence boost that you simply don't get from spending all your time indoors.

4. Try Something New

(Your reaction) Thank you!

In London there are loads of 'random' groups that meetup - things like 'List Lovers' (for people who love making lists or 'Papier Mache Robots' (I'll let you figure that one out..) Whether you'd like to try your hand at printing your own t-shirts or have always wanted to have a go at photography, learning a new skill is a great way to meet people and have fun!

5. Learn a Language

(Your reaction) Thank you!

Learning a new language is a great confidence booster; particularly if it's for a country you are longing to visit. There's a certain camaraderie between students on language courses, so whether you sign up for a daytime class during your summer holidays or an evening class after work, you're sure to make some new friends whilst learning a useful new skill!

6. Buy a Book

(Your reaction) Thank you!

Whether you have lived in the same city your whole life or recently moved somewhere new, buying a guidebook can help you to see the place you live in a whole new light. I recently bought "1000 things to do in London for under £10" and let me tell you, some of the things in there are really cool! You don't even have to buy a guidebook if money is tight; just Google some of the tourist attractions in your area and spend the day exploring

7. Catch up with Old Friends

(Your reaction) Thank you!

Remember those friends who you never see but occasionally message on Facebook? There's no time like the present to organize a catch-up. Drinks, coffee or an afternoon of shopping with old friends can be so much fun - you'll wonder why you left it so long!

These are just a few ideas for adding some oomph to your social life this summer - I'm sure you have your own ideas too and I would love to hear them. What do you do when you get bored?
