7 Ways to Figure out What You Truly Want ...

If you ever have difficulty determining exactly how you feel, you’ll need ways to figure out what you truly want. Whether you’re confused on what major to declare or what boy to date, you should never make a rash decision. You don’t want to regret your choice later on in life. Use the following ways to figure out what you truly want in order to make the best decision possible.

1. Counting Qualities

For a few minutes, forget that you need to choose between Yale and Oxford. Don’t pay attention to the choices that you have. Instead, write down a list of qualities that you’re looking for in a school (or house or boyfriend) and rank them in order of importance. Be as unrealistic as you need to be; don’t hold anything back. When you’ve finished, see what matches up with the choices that are available to you. One of the ways to figure out what you truly want is to break your decision down into smaller pieces of the whole.

2. Decode Dreams

Dreams can be completely random, but sometimes they give insight to the inner workings of your mind. Pay attention to what you dream about (daydreaming counts too). It can show you what you desire or what you would hate to have happen. If you’re always worrying about the same thing, like flunking a test, then your grades are of importance to you. You want to put your education to use and be as successful as possible.

3. Ready and Willing

Determine what you think you want and what you’re willing to do in order to get it. If you think you want that designer dress that caught your eye while window shopping, check the price tag. Are you willing to put in extra hours at work and sacrifice your spending money for the next month? If not, the dress isn’t worth emptying your wallet for. The same rule applies in any situation. When you think you know what you want, take a look at the risks to see if you’re ready to accept the consequences.

4. Vanishing Voices

Clear your mind. Don’t let the opinion of your parents or friends or teachers taint your own. You have your own mind and are able to use it without assistance. Everyone else might think they know what’s best for you, but no-one knows you better than you know yourself. You can factor in their opinions afterwards. First, take a second to decide what you want and don’t let anyone sway you.

5. Emotion Commotion

Don’t be afraid to release your emotions. If you’re aggravated or upset, you can show it. You won’t be able to think straight if you’re trying to hold back your tears. Find an empty room where you can curse and cry to your heart’s desire. Once your emotions are sorted out, then sit down and try to re-evaluate your situation.

6. Ready to Ramble

If you can find someone that’s willing to listen to your rambling, take advantage of the opportunity. When you allow yourself to talk about something with no filter, without thinking out what you’re saying, you might admit something that you’re surprised by. So try talking about your problem without pausing to think. If you don’t have anyone around that will listen to you, there’s no harm in talking to yourself. You’ll get the same result.

7. Ask Away

Ask someone who’s been in your situation before. Ask someone whose advice you admire. Ask as many people as you want in order to get varying opinions. It doesn’t matter if you listen to them, but it’s helpful to hear other people’s viewpoints. So don’t be afraid to talk to anyone you see.

When you’re trying to figure out what direction to go in life, try your best to make the right decision. Are you currently struggling with any problems? How do you typically deal with big issues in life?
