You know what makes you happy, but did you know that there are some things getting in the way of your happiness that you might not expect. Even if you don't realize it, these are things that are interfering with a positive life and are definitely something to assess going forward. If you don't feel like you're living your best life, consider these things that get in the way of happiness.
I'm not talking about the annoying driver in front of you in the highway or that snarky co-worker everyone hates. Sometimes your friends can sabotage your happiness. If you have friends who are negative or who are critical of others, you may not feel all that happy when you're around them. You don't have to give up these friends, but you might want to take measures to counteract their effect on your mood.
This might sound like a no-brainer, but there's scientific proof that not getting enough sleep can make you moody and angry. Most people should get between 7 and 9 hours every night so if you're not measuring up, start going to bed earlier and see how much happier you are.
Stress is a way of life and isn't something you can completely avoid, but the trick to true happiness is having an outlet to control that stress. This might be running or yoga or taking an hour to read a novel at the end of the day. Whatever makes you feel better should be part of your daily routine.
Fear shouldn't hold you back because when you let it get in the way, you run the risk of not being happy. When you let fear rule your life, you don't give yourself the chance to reach for your dreams and that definitely won't make you happy.
Whether you're a mom, a daughter, a co-worker or a friend, it's easy to put everyone else's needs before your own. While you can't get around this sometimes, it's not a good idea to put your own dreams and goals on hold for other people. Even if you only commit a small amount of time or you get where you want to be very slowly, don't ignore your own needs or you won't be very happy.
