When artist Emily McDowell was just 24, she was diagnosed with lymphoma, a frightening, deadly disease. She's okay now (whew!) but the experience left her convinced that more people would have been there for her, if only they knew what to say. So more than a decade later, healthy, she's decided to help us all express our innermost loving feelings when someone we know, heaven forbid, gets sick. Her Empathy Cards aren't your average "get well soon" cards with ridiculously cheery, inappropriately upbeat, gag-worthy messages — they're so much more. Let's have a look.
