It's that time of year again! We make new year's resolutions and let's face it, many of us struggle to keep these goals beyond the first couple of weeks of the new year! Maybe this is a sign that we're choosing unrealistic or unattainable goals/resolutions, so here are just a few achievable New Year's resolutions
1. Slow down and Enjoy the Moment
It's all too easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of every day jobs, activities and what not, but it's a new year and that calls for a change and a better approach! No matter how stressed out you feel, try not to let the moments pass you by and remember to slooow dooowwn! No one should be racing through life so fast they get to the finish line, look back and realise they didn't get to enjoy any of the moments throughout.
2. Take the Time to Treat Yo'self
Whatever you do, don't be too hard on yourself! We all love to be treated to something special every now and again, and there's no reason why you can't be this person for yourself. Take the time to do things that you love, indulge a little and enjoy the luxuries in life that you know you love!
3. Self Acceptance (it Goes a Long Way)
You don't have to love yourself every minute of every day, but it's important to learn to be okay with yourself and accept yourself as you are. It's equally as important to recognise your strengths, weaknesses and all the qualities that makes you who you are today!
4. Say Yes More Often
Us Kiwis are known for saying 'yeah nah' to pretty much everything, which is actually just our way of saying no. In a country where you hear 'yeah nah' almost every day, I can see how it's all too easy to turn down suggestions, chances and opportunities when they are given to us. 2019 should be about saying yes (or just 'yeah' in our case 😂) to these. Don't forget the importance of challenging yourself as well as stepping outside your comfort zone every so often!
5. Stop with the Comparisons
If you're actively choosing to use social media then it's vital that you go about it in a way that isn't about comparing yourself to other people or which has a negative impact on you as an individual. Personally I've chosen to take a major step back from many social media platforms, purely to avoid this sort of thing, and it's been one of the best decisions I've ever made.
6. Become an Active Listener
No matter how much you love to talk about yourself, it's equally as important to get into the habit of putting this on hold so you can be an active listener as well as a talker! I love the saying 'we have two ears and one mouth'. It reminds me, and should also remind you, that we should all listen twice as much as we speak!
7. Take Judgement down a Peg
It's important to remember that we're all struggling with our own issues and dealing with all sorts that often aren't seen on surface level. We're no different to each other in this way. For the new year that's just around the corner each of us should aim to judge less and to be more accepting. In my opinion, no one can ever be too accepting of others 💖
