You're not the only girl looking for ways to cope with blushing. The act of blushing can be something that is cute and admirable, but some people have a much bigger problem with facial blushing than you might imagine. 1

Relax out of It

Blushing tends to get worse and worse once you start to focus on the fact that you are blushing in the first place. The more tense and self aware you become, the brighter and more fierce the blush will be. It is easier said than done, but you really need to try to embrace that first blush and force your body to be okay with the fact that you are turning red. The quicker your body comes to terms with the blush and you don’t exacerbate it with nerves, the quicker it will die down. This is one of the easiest ways to cope with blushing.

2

Announce It

A great way to take the embarrassment and shame out of a blush is to announce that is happening to the people you are with. The more open you are about your blushing and the effect it has on you, the less of an albatross it will be about your neck. Just a simple ‘I’m going to go red now,” in a lighthearted way will be enough to diffuse any tension and embarrassment that might come from trying to keep it a secret.

3

Don’t Worry about Other Opinions

Try not to get too wrapped up in what the people around you might think about your blushing. You might think that they are taking it in a specific way, but in actuality, the truth is that most people will recognise an uncontrollable blusher and will be sympathetic towards your situation rather than trying to read anything deeper into it.

4

Retrain Your Body

Self hypnosis might not work for everybody, but it can help to train your body to relax as much as possible when you feel a blush coming on. Practise that feeling of accepting that it is about to happen, and the more you practise, the less of a shock it will to your system when the real thing occurs in a public setting. Internalise the feelings of sympathy that you yourself would have if you saw somebody going through the same thing as you.

5

Adjust Your Standards

Let’s be real, every single person in the world has something that they wish they could improve about themselves! If you were perfect, you would be God, so there is no point beating yourself up about your blushing. Put it in perspective, it might seem horrible at the time, but there are people going through much worse things than you are right now!
