If you’re looking for a few very efficient ways to find out what you want in life, then I hope this article will help you discover what your deepest wishes are. A lot of people live their lives having no clue what they want, because they always did what their parents told them to do and they didn’t even question if those decisions were right for them. That’s why most of them are miserable now, since they are not happy with their lives, especially with their jobs. Discovering what you really want to do with your life is not an easy task, you might not do it overnight and it may take a lot of effort on your behalf. Make time for yourself every now and then and just try to figure out what you want, or at least if what you are doing now really suits you. On this matter, I really love this beautiful quote by Anaïs Nin: “There came a time when the risk to remain tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” Just read on and discover a few very helpful ways to find out what you want in life:
One of the most efficient ways to find out what you want in life is by figuring out what you need in order to be happy. I’m not saying this is an easy task. It may take you quite a lot of time to realize what you need the most. Just ask yourself what are the most important things to you: your family, love, financial security? Find out the answer to all these questions and you will know what you have to do to live a happy and fulfilled life.
If you don’t know what you want or what you need in life, you could experiment and get different hobbies, so you know if something suits you or not. Just try different things and see what you like. You might discover quite a few surprising things about you, things that might make you re-evaluate your priorities. Just like Marian Schembari said: “You can’t discover what you want to do with your life if you don’t take advantage of everything life has to offer.”

Just like Marian Schembari said: “You can’t discover what you want to do with your life if you don’t take advantage of everything life has to offer.” Engaging in diverse hobbies can also introduce you to new communities, expanding your social circle and further enriching your self-discovery journey.
Just try to imagine where you will be in five years. Do you like your life? Picturing yourself in the future might sometimes be a lot harder than it would seem. In order to do it, you have to answer a few very important questions about yourself, questions that might make you feel uncomfortable. Just think about what skills you would like to develop in five years and make a plan to reach this goal. Don’t give up on your dreams and always work hard to achieve all your objectives!
Find out what really bothers you and you will know what you don’t want to do in your life. You could even make a list of everything you don’t like and this will definitely help you figure out what you need to be happy. What are the things that upset you the most? Is it your current job, some friend that is not really your friend, your tasks? Just find out the answer to all these questions and things will definitely seem clearer to you.
Reflect deeply on these questions, and don’t shy away from confronting uncomfortable truths. Sometimes, acknowledging negative feelings is the first step towards clarity. Once you have identified what irks you, consider how these factors align or clash with your personal values and long-term goals. Create concrete action plans to eliminate or reduce these irritants from your life. For instance, if it's a toxic relationship, distance yourself from that person. If it's a monotonous job, explore opportunities that excite you. Recognizing these triggers will pave the way for a more fulfilled and content life.
I know this seems easier said than done, but you should try to make peace with your past and not have any regrets if you want to live a happy and fulfilled life. What’s done is done and you can’t do a single thing to change that, no matter how hard you try. Focus on your future, so you’ll be able to move forward. Don’t dwell on your past, because now’s the perfect time to live the way you want.
If you tried really hard but you still can’t figure out what you want in life and this makes you feel very anxious, then you could try talking to someone (a friend, a family member or even a therapist). They might help you clarify certain things, because sometimes you might need an outside observer to point out some things you never would have noticed otherwise.
I asked you before to determine the things that bother you, and I would like to know now what are the things that make you feel truly happy. Just take a few moments every day and think of all those things you enjoy, all those things that make you feel energized and that make you feel better after a small setback. Once you realize what those things that make you happy are, you’ll figure out what you have to strive for in your life.
There are a lot of things you can do to figure out what you want to do with your life. I just mentioned a few in this little article but I’m sure there are many more I haven’t talked about. Can you give me a hand and tell me if you know any other ways to find out what you want in life? Please share your thoughts with us in the comments section!
