7 Unintentional Actions That May Be Pushing People Away from You ...

By Holly

If you’re feeling lonely, you should make sure you’re not performing actions that may be pushing people away. You could be isolating yourself without realizing it. No one wants to feel like they’re alone. We need human interaction, whether we want it or not. In order to rebuild your social life, stop performing these actions that may be pushing people away:

1 Slow or No Response

No one enjoys rejection. If a friend gives you a call or shoots you a text, respond as promptly as you can. If you wait too long or ignore them completely, they’re going to think you don’t want anything to do with them. One of the actions that may be pushing people away is your procrastination, forgetfulness, or social anxiety--whatever reason that you’re not responding.

2 Depressed during Dates

When you make plans with friends, you expect the night to be full of fun. If you show up sad once, they’ll try to cheer you up. If you show up sad every single day, they’ll be reluctant to see you again. Sadness can be contagious, and no one wants to catch it from you.

3 Bad Habits Emerging

If you’re always canceling plans, stealing, or lying, why would anyone want to be around you? Your bad habits can hurt others, causing them to flee. The nicer you are, the higher your chances are of making and keeping friends. Like your kindergarten teacher taught you: Treat others the way you’d want to be treated. If you don’t, you’re hurting yourself more than anyone by isolating yourself.

4 Obsessing over Everything

You should find friends that share your interests or at least don’t mind hearing you rave about Benedict Cumberbatch. However, there are limits. Believe it or not, some people don’t want to spend all of their free time discussing Sherlock. If your friends aren’t as obsessed with something as you are, dial down the fangirling every once in a while. That’s what Tumblr’s for.

5 Mystery Won't Die

It’s natural to be afraid of opening up to others. You don’t want to end up hurt, so you decide to close yourself off. However, you can only remain a mystery for so long. If you want to develop strong, meaningful relationships, you have to let others in. You don't have to list off every goal on your bucket list. Even if you only let them in a little bit, it'll make a difference in your relationship.

6 Dangerous Distractions

Don’t check your phone every five minutes when you have company. When you ignore your friends, they’ll think that you’d rather be elsewhere. It’s rude and hurtful to pay more attention to your electronics than your pals. Even though it’s the twenty-first century, you don’t have to be attached to your electronics.

7 Too Busy to Socialize

It’s not your fault that you don’t have much free time. Life requires a lot from you, and it’s difficult to fit leisure time into your schedule. However, with a bit of planning and rearranging, you can find time to relax. By setting time aside for your friends, you’re showing them that they’re a priority.

You don’t want to go too long without associating with your friends. They’re what makes life entertaining! Do you enjoy being alone or do you see your pals every single day?
