Chase Your Dreams
This is never as simple as it sounds, but if there’s something you’ve always wanted to do and you’ve never done it, start pursuing that! It can be anything, from learning how to play an instrument, to starting up your own business on Etsy! Whatever it is, chasing your dreams is one of the best answers for how to make 2018 your year.
Work on a Positive Mental Attitude
PMA, a phrase coined by the Youtuber JackSepticEye, is essential to making 2018 a great year. Having a positive outlook will shift your mood, and in response, your life! If you are complaining all the time, you’ll feel more down and depressed, but if you look on the bright side of every event, you’ll find yourself feeling much more upbeat!
Make a list of things you want to do or events you want to attend this year. This could include a movie, a concert, or even a weekend trip! Research the cost, and write that down beside each item. This will be great motivation for financing wisely, to get you to those goals; plus it gives you something to look forward to!
Find a Fandom
Whether it’s an actual fandom of a show or movie, or just a book club, get involved in a group (in person or online) that you can be yourself with. Having a support group will help you keep that PMA, boost your social skills, and help you feel like a part of the collective whole.
Discover Your Goals
Do some self-searching and find out what your goal in life is. Do you want to be an artist, a doctor, the next President? Write down some of your goals, starting from the top (overall life goal) to the bottom (goal in a social area, a goal in a relationship area), and be sure to include your goal for this year. If 2018 is going to be YOUR year, it should all be heading toward YOUR goal!
Put Yourself out There
For some women, this is the hardest step. For others, it’s fairly easy. But either way, one thing is for certain; your life isn’t going to change unless you make it. For example, you won’t get a better job if you never apply at other companies! Or, you’ll never date that coworker three cubicles down if you never get up the nerve to talk to him! Put yourself out there and take a chance. You are a strong, confident individual full of PMA; you can do this!
Treat Others How You Want to Be Treated
This is perhaps one of the most important ways you can make 2018 your year. If you treat others with the kindness, respect, and love that you want to be treated with, it will inevitably be returned! Make a note that this isn’t an excuse to let people walk all over you. But if you, for example, want to be respected in the workplace, don’t talk bad about a coworker behind their back when you know someone doing that to you would upset you. It’s the Golden Rule, and it’s called that for a reason!
Fear and anxiety can be crippling, especially for women. It’s hard to take this to heart with all the chaos happening in the world right now, but this is an important part of embracing 2018. You have to truly embrace this life, not fret and worry. Leave the ‘what ifs’ in the dust, and take charge. This is YOUR life, it’s YOUR year. Now get out there, and grab life by the horns!
