Let’s be real. We all can be a bit judgmental from time to time💁 It happens, whether we fully acknowledge it or not. There are some steps we can take to avoid it, though, because it doesn't do anyone any good.

1

Change Your Perspective🙃

One of the biggest things you can do to keep from being judgmental is to try and put yourself in another person’s shoes. I always try to imagine how a situation might make a person feel or act. It’s really opened my eyes and made me think twice.

2

Avoid Stereotypes🙅

It can be easy to look at what society says about a person and to simply go along with it. But stereotypes put people in boxes that they probably don’t belong in and allow us to judge much easier. Remember that everyone is a unique individual and so they are impossible to define this way.

3

Look for the Good🕵

An exercise that has really helped me when it comes to this is to constantly look for the good in people. You can set goals of complimenting others or write down things that you admire. This draws your focus towards the positive versus the negative and makes judging less of a habit.

4

Ditch the Gossip🤐

It can be really tempting to make comments about other people when you’re with a group of friends and everyone is doing it. You don’t need that negativity in your life, though. I usually try to change the subject, or I simply keep quiet (which usually ends the convo anyway).

5

Look in the Mirror🤔

Nobody’s perfect, including us, right? So nobody has the right to judge another person’s appearance or actions. The sooner that you can accept yourself, including your flaws, the less likely you’ll be to have this attitude. It also helps me to remember that when I feel judged, it feels pretty crappy (so stop judging yourself, too).

Enlighten Yourself👼

A great way to stop being judgmental is to open your eyes and ears to the world around you. Getting to know another person’s way of life and experiencing other cultures will allow you to be more informed. I find that the more you know, the more able you are to put yourself in someone’s shoes.

7

Gain Some Focus🤓

If you find yourself looking around at other people and what they’re doing, hit the reset button. Try and center your effort on yourself and what you want in life. I always like to set goals and be ambitious. It can also be as simple as picking up a new hobby and filling up free time.

These are just some of the ways that can help you to be less judgmental. Everyone wins when we go through life with an open heart ❤️ and mind 💭 If you have any other suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments.
