7 Wonderful Ways to Fill Your Attitude with Gratitude ...

There are many wonderful ways to fill your attitude with gratitude and when the going gets tough, it's easy to forget all the great things going on in our lives. Thinking about the things we're grateful for can have a whole heap of benefits on body and mind. For example, according to Dr Ilona Boniwell, author of "Positive Psychology In a Nutshell: The Science of Happiness", people with a grateful mind-set are less likely to have a heart attack. Also, research from the University of Manchester has shown that being more grateful improves sleep quality. So in the interests of health and sanity preservation, here are some simple ways to fill your attitude with gratitude and feel great as a consequence.

The Simple Life

How often do you take the time to appreciate the simple things in life like a sunset, sunrise or beautiful clear blue sky? I know, it sounds cheesy, but taking time to savour the little things in life can really boost your mood. Take the time to do things slowly and notice life instead of rushing around. As Ferris Bueller said, "life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it". Well said Ferris. This is one of the easiest ways to fill your attitude with gratitude.

What if...

Sometimes, thinking about what could have happened can help you appreciate what you have. Think about what life could be like now had you not met your partner or had your children. This can help you appreciate what you have and you're less likely to take things for granted by thinking about what you have potentially avoided.

3

Say It with Flowers

Well, you don't have to say it with flowers, you could say it with a card or by making a cup of coffee for someone. Saying thank you by doing something nice or showing your appreciation with a card or little gift, can do wonders for yourself and others around you. So spread the joy by saying thank you, even if it's by text, email or with a quick note!

4

Remind Yourself

There are other ways you can remind yourself of the reasons to be grateful. You could put your reasons on a vision board or pin them around your mirror. You can even download a free app called the Gratitude Diary, appsto.re on which you can list the things in life you're grateful for.

5

Keep a Gratitude Journal

By writing down what you're grateful for three or four times a week, you can change the way you think and train your mind to hone in on the positive rather than the negative. There are obviously times when we forget what we're grateful for as we're hardwired to strive for more, which can leave us feeling perpetually dissatisfied in life. Keeping a journal can help us to focus on the important things we're grateful for; for example our family, a job, a home, car and not just material things but even our health.

A Good Deed

Working with others who are less fortunate than ourselves can really help us put things into perspective. I'm not saying that's the ONLY reason you would volunteer, but helping others can boost your well-being in so many ways and help you realise how lucky you are too.

Three Little Things

Showing your appreciation for your partner can help your relationship too. Make this a ritual by telling your partner three things you appreciate about them before you go to bed. It could just be a small thing but sharing even the tiniest things you appreciate about your signifiant other, can help transform your relationship for the better. After all, who doesn't like to be appreciated!

These things will not only boost your happiness but will also help to improve your health and overall well-being. So go on, fill your attitude with gratitude. What things do you do which help boost your well-being? I'd be so grateful if you shared them!

Where Thoughts and Opinions Converge

To add to appreciating the simple things in life, it helps me to appreciate little things I own which bring me joy; my bed, the pair of jeans I bought last, my yard, my candles, etc. I think of how I am blessed I have these & enjoy little joys of life while others maybe don\'t.

I felt like a kid on a swing the other day, but at the same time I appreciated being in nature and grateful for things that happen in life, it\'s precious!

Wonderful. I\'m a psychologist and this is very true as I recently conducted an experiment regarding positivity and having an attitude of gratitude.

Be grateful you can make choices being able to choose is always nice
