Are you looking for ways to improve yourself? So am I! I found these amazing ways to give back to the community while doing so, too! Here are some fun ways to improve yourself and help others:
This is one of the ways to improve yourself while helping others, and it is one of my favorites! I love to shop…a lot. So I don’t exactly go through all of my clothes. Instead of letting your clothes just sit there and wait for you to finally wear them, give your unloved clothes to women who need them! This even goes for formal dresses and professional clothes! Just remember that there is always someone out there who would appreciate and use your ill-fitting or gently worn clothing items! Help a sister out!
Do you love sports? If I did, I would definitely do this! You can burn your calories and give back to the community at the same time by volunteering to be a referee! Community organizations are always looking for extra (and free) manpower!
If you are thinking of getting a few new home items, like a new coffee station or a dining table, don’t just toss the old one! You can donate the old version. Goodwill is the place to go. It accepts lightly used things…pretty much anything.
This is one of my favorite ways to improve myself while helping others. Try volunteering at your middle school or high school, or if you have moved since graduating, seek out a local high school. Many high schools will accept help if you are qualified. I do this, and it’s great to reinforce my English, math, or Spanish while trying to help out other kids!
Do you like to throw parties? If you do, then you probably know that unfortunately, a lot of food goes to waste. Make sure to combat this problem next time you throw a party by donating to a food shelter!
When you get the latest and greatest in technology, give your old and unwanted phone or computer to those in need. I know that many stores offer free recycling and donation programs. It’s so much better than letting it sit in a drawer! You can also do this with your old car. Some senior centers accept cars that you don’t want, and you can check around your community to see where you can ditch your old car.
If you love going out, buy a discounted certificate from a charity organization. You get the same food and part of your money goes to those in need! Another option that is super neat is food boxes. They are the next big thing! I am subscribed to three (3!) and I even gave the subscriptions as gifts last Christmas. Many food subscription services donate a food box for each one that you get, so you get to discover new snacks while a hungry family gets fed!
Volunteering is one of my favorite activities, but as a college student, I don’t get to do it as much as I would like. These opportunities let me feel like I’m helping others in a different way, which is still good. How do you like to help others? Have you tried any of these ways?
