Learn from It

Rejection and failure are pretty unpleasant when we're faced with them. But one of the best ways to benefit from failure is to use it to your advantage. Failure is a fabulous teacher and we can all learn from those negative experiences. Don't feel glum when something doesn't go your way or it doesn't happen the way you anticipated. Instead, learn from it and as C.S Lewis said, "one fails forward toward success."

2

Pride before a Fall

Confidence is key in life however there is a thin line between confidence and arrogance and sometimes these lines can be blurred. Failure and rejection can teach humility and can also teach you to be more humble.

3

Real Relationships

When the going gets tough, you realize who your friends are. I know, they weren't lyrics in that fabulous eighties ditty about pluck and perseverance but they should have been and you certainly can see which relationships are truly valuable in those tough times. True friends are there through thick and thin. They're there when you're up and there when you're down. Know that failure and rejection will help you see who matters in your life.

4

Thick Skin

If you're a sensitive soul who doesn't take criticism well then it's time to develop a thick skin. Failure and rejection can make you stronger and more adept at dealing with any negativity that might come your way. Imagine yourself as a superhero with a protective shield. Let the negativity bounce off you and feel empowered as you move on.

5

Clarity

Rejection can also give you clarity. It can make you see that either what you're working towards is what you really want or that it's just not worth it. If you're working towards a goal that you think you desire wholeheartedly and obstacles keep standing in your way, the real test is whether you want to fight the obstacles or give up all together.

New Skills

Sometimes, negative experiences can open you up to new experiences. That's the beauty of life. It often doesn't go to plan but I am a firm believer in things happening for a reason. Embrace all the experiences whether they're good or bad and see whether there are new skills you can develop or acquire as a result.

7

You'll Appreciate Success

If you have experienced failure and set-backs then the subsequent success you experience will taste that little bit sweeter. Success doesn't happen over night. It takes hard work and persistence but if it's something you truly desire, you will let those set-backs make you stronger.

Failure shouldn't be seen as something negative, so changing our perspective can help us to achieve those goals and dreams without being afraid of what may or may not happen. As Michael Jordan said, "I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can't accept not trying." What do you think? Can you think of any other ways to benefit from failure?
