Have you ever considered thought-provoking questions to ask yourself? You might have speculated if you had a super power what it would be or the one thing you would like to have on a deserted island with you. No matter what question you’ve asked yourself, you begin to learn a little more about who you are as a person when you come up with the answer. I think adding thought-provoking questions to ask yourself into your life is important because you get to know what’s important in your life, what truly matters.
You know the Mastercard commercials where everything costs a little bit more until the final item that’s ‘priceless?’ What would your ‘priceless’ Mastercard commercial item be? For me, travel is a huge part of my life. But so is connection. I love those moments when you can truly connect one person’s spirit to another’s. My priceless moment would be the spark in your eyes when you feel that connection, no matter what culture the person comes from. You should ask yourself this though-provoking question.
If you had 30 days to live, what would you do with them? I was asked this question during a creative writing class in college. It really got me thinking. Life is so delicate. I mean, you never know what day you are going to die. Today you could have 70 years or you may already be on day 27 of 30. Knowing that, I make efforts to really spend time with the people I’m with, investing my energy into the moment. After all, it’s all I’ve got.
When was the last time you tried something new? And I mean really new. Something that challenged you to go out of your comfort zone entirely. Were you invited to do it by a friend or did you just do it for yourself? I recently tried Thai food which is so far from my normal palate but now I love it and try to eat it whenever I can. It’s so good. I can’t believe I didn’t know about it before.
Other than money, what else have you gained from your current job? You spend so much of your time working so it’s important to find it useful instead of simply wasting time away in return for a paycheck. I work with children in both nanny and babysitting roles. My work with kids unleashes my imagination and encourages me to dream. I invest everything I do into what I’m doing. If I’m a hungry hippo eating everything in sight, you can sure bet that I’m in it with all my heart. Commitment is something I’ve gained from my work in childcare.
If there was a fire in your home and everything burned to the ground, what’s the one thing you would take with you to keep safe? This question was posed in the film “Leap Year” and has had me thinking ever since. It might sound silly to you, but two of my stuffed animals are the giraffe Sheldon and the hedgehog Hedgie. They mean the world to me. I work in childcare and these two critters are popular with all the kids I spend time with. Losing them would devastate all of us so I would go out of my way to save them. This question reminds me how important working with children is to me.
Can you describe your life in six words? What would you say? This question really gets you thinking because it challenges you to express the most relevant parts of who you are.
If what goes around comes around, would it help you or hurt you? Putting whatever you thoughts on karma are aside, give this question some thought. The way we impact others and the world around us does take a toll in some way, shape or form. Are your actions and words led by kindness and sincerity or self-centeredness? Only you know.
Asking yourself thought-provoking questions gives you the opportunity to get to know yourself a little better. What are some other questions that give you food for thought? Were you surprised with any of your answers?
