There are lots of things you should know about adulthood. Adulthood can be seen in two different ways. One, the best thing that ever happened to us and two, the worst thing possible that will haunt us forever. It’s true that being a young adult means so much to us growing up. We have so much more freedom and total independence indeed. However, that leads us to make choices that build success in our future such as in our career, but it can also possibly lead to the ultimate downfall of life—that is failure. Here are all the things you should know about adulthood. So listen carefully and start taking notes!
1. Your Game Plan
Making a plan is a great way to be successful as a young adult. You’re able to reach your goals. You have set priorities to get what you want. You indeed follow your schedule to have your eye on the ball. So if you don’t know what to do first as a young adult, start planning and make goals ahead of time for the future. You never know, being an adult might be a piece of cake.
2. Do It Yourself
This means you don’t have to rely on anything or anyone, including your mother! This includes doing your own laundry and learning how to cook a dish or two! So even though your mom is your best friend, you can still do stuff on your own. This is a big step in adulthood and one that is possibly hard to take. So take responsibility now and be the strong independent woman you are!
3. Know Your Social Security Number
We all have to memorize our social security number as an adult one day because this is crucial for proof of identity as well as getting hired for a job. It may be a lot of numbers to memorize, but those nine numbers will save you from any identity theft or fraud. So keep those numbers close to you and the card somewhere in your house. Keeping it in your wallet is a big no-no since it can be stolen or misplaced. So don’t let that happen to you!
4. Your Checkbook Will Be Your Best Friend
If you don’t have a checkbook yet, get one! This is important because budgeting your expenses will help you keep track of what you’re spending. If you don’t know how to write a check, you gotta start learning now! Learning to write a check is another crucial part of being an adult because it helps in transferring a large sum of money in order to pay. Once you learn, it will feel natural.
5. Start Investing
Probably one of the things that we don’t take seriously in our twenties is investing. But that doesn’t mean we can’t start now. Saving money will do you good in the future. The earlier you start, the better. So put that money in your piggy bank!
6. Always Update Your Resume
Sure, resumes can be a pain in the butt, but if you keep updating it every so often it will save you time from looking back at what your past jobs were and what skills you’ve acquired. You can build the strongest resume that employers are looking for nowadays. So what mad skills do you have?
7. Birthdays Come and Go
It’s horrible to think that we aren’t getting any younger as we age, but as we grower older, it’s just a number we see. It may not seem important like before, but it’s just part of being an adult. The older you get, the less people care to celebrate. But know this! So blow out your candles and wish for the best!
8. Friends Are Not Always the Same
It may hurt to say, but as we grow older our list of friends will decline. There are true friends, there are fake friends, and there are real friends. Just know that as we age, we choose a few friends that are close to us. It’s better to have 10 close friends rather than 100 that we call friends. So who are your friends?
9. Networking is a Must
All grownups must do some networking. I say this because it can lead to job offers as well as possible opportunities to grow. This is very important since we live in a world where the media serves a huge part of our daily lives. We post on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, etc. almost every day for our pleasure. So it’s necessary to have our connections with everyone so that we can use it to our own advantage. Am I right?
10. Live out Your Twenties as Much as Possible
Travel around the world, buy that new car, find that dream job you’ve always wanted, look for your soul mate, learn Mandarin if you have to! Do everything to enjoy your twenties while still young. The world doesn’t have to be a terrifying place to live in if you share the love and your passion. Don’t worry about other people because everyone’s adulthood is different! You never know - you might be living life to the fullest! So what have you conquered?
