7 Things to do with a Christmas Gift You Don't Want ...

There are several options when it comes to things to do with a Christmas gift you don’t want. You know, it happens. Every now and then you receive a Christmas gift that just isn’t your style. There’s no need to stress. These are 7 things to do with a Christmas gift you don’t want.

1. Take It Back

One of the very first things to do with a Christmas gift you don’t want is take it back. Sometimes this is easier to do than other times. If you’re close enough to the person that gave it to you, maybe you can ask them for the receipt. Of course you don’t want to do this if you think it’ll hurt their feelings. If getting the receipt isn’t an option, you can still try to take it back. Some stores will work with you on this.

2. Repurpose It

Another option is to repurpose the gift. Maybe you received a set of cosmetic bags but you find the design completely tacky. You know you’d never want to use them to carry your makeup in. But maybe you can think of another purpose for them such as storing fragile Christmas ornaments. You’re using the gift but in a way that you won’t be using it as often.

3. Trade It off

There’s a saying that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. There’s a lot of truth in that. Just because you don’t like something doesn’t mean someone else won’t love it. If you get a gift you don’t love, maybe you can trade it. If you and your friends have clothing and accessory swaps, bring it along. It may be something that one of them loves.

4. Regift It

Regifting can be okay. It’s important that you do it carefully, not giving away things that are used or giving in the same circle that you received it. Other than that, it’s a great idea. If you receive a gift that doesn’t work for you, it’s perfectly okay to regift it if you know someone who might love it. This can save you a bit of money on gift shopping, too.

5. Give It Away

You can always give the gift away. If you aren’t going to use it, why not give it to someone who will? You don’t want to do this if there’s a chance you might get caught. For example, giving a gift to your sister that your mom got you might not be a good idea. But other than that, your unwanted gift could make someone else’s day.

6. Donate It

Donating is always an option. There are many wonderful charities that accept all sorts of donations. You just want to make sure your gift fits their criteria. If it does, your donation could really help someone else. You can also get a receipt for any donations that you make for tax purposes.

7. Use It Anyway

You know, maybe you can use the gift anyway. You don’t have to use it all the time. But it’s good to look behind the gift to the thought. If you know the person that gave you the gift had good intentions then that counts for something. Seeing you use the gift they got you could make the gift giver very happy.
