Smile
Believe it or not, one of the easiest ways to change how you feel is to smile. Even if you don't really feel it, faking a smile helps boost your mood a little. Try to take the time to smile to yourself often when you're feeling down or stressed. At first, it'll feel strange, but after you've done it a few times, it becomes easier. Plus, you'll notice yourself genuinely smiling more often.
Watch or Listen to Something Funny
Laughter is well known for boosting moods. Watch a comedy or listen to a hilarious podcast. Taking 10-30 minutes to simply laugh will instantly make you feel better. I have several YouTube channels I subscribe to that do the trick every time. Once I've taken a laughter break, I'm better able to deal with stressful situations later in the day without feeling down.
Get Away
If the cause of your negative emotions stems from a certain situation or person, get away. Don't force yourself to stay in a negative environment. Even if you can only get away for a few hours, do it. Go out with friends or see a movie by yourself. Whatever you do, take a break from what's getting you down. Think of it as a mini-vacation. It's a great way to clear your mind and your emotions.
Snuggle
Snuggling close to someone you care about is a great way to feel better. It reduces stress and makes you feel happier. Grab your significant other or even your pet. Grab a blanket, snuggle close and watch your favorite movie. Honestly, what's more relaxing than snuggling with someone you love? You can even call your bestie over to snuggle up with and indulge in some much needed Rocky Road ice cream.
Dance like No One's Watching
Remember when you were younger and danced in your room? You never thought twice about what others might think. It was fun and made you feel happy and free. Just because you're older doesn't mean you can't still do that. Go to your room, put on some happy music and dance. It doesn't matter whether you're good or not. Letting go mixed with the physical activity will help you feel better, no matter what your mood might be.
Talk to Friends
The great thing about friends is they're there to help boost you when you're feeling down. You don't even have to talk about what's bugging you. Meet up with a few close friends and do something fun. Talk about random stuff or just the hot guy across the room. You'll get your mind off what's bringing you down and start to feel happier. It'll also make it easier to deal with your problems later on.
Eat Your Favorite Food
Even if you're on a diet, grab your favorite food and treat yourself. You associate your favorite foods with happiness. They taste great and they make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. You don't have to gorge, but grab a small burger or loaded fries for dinner if you want. Doing something special for yourself helps boost your mood. You'll feel better and feel less stressed.
You really do have numerous simple ways to control your feelings. No matter what you're going through, you can feel better. The more often you do these things, the more positive you'll feel overall. What do you do to change how you feel?
