No matter how self-conscious you are, there are reasons to stop being so hard on yourself. You’re your own harshest critic, which can help push you to do your best, but can also be harmful for your self-esteem. You have to give yourself a break. You need to realize your worth and consider these reasons to stop being so hard on yourself.
1. Choose Happiness
Sometimes being hard on yourself pushes you to do better, but sometimes it will only make you feel worse. If your harsh expectations for yourself are causing you to cry, you have to stop. Why be so negative? You’re in charge of your thoughts, which are in charge of your happiness. One of the reasons to stop being so hard on yourself is because your pessimism isn’t accomplishing anything.
2. Perfection Lies
Perfection doesn’t exist.You can’t expect to constantly get high grades and look gorgeous and accomplish everything you set out to do. All you can do is try your best. If you don’t succeed, you should still be proud of yourself. Never get angry at yourself for failing when there was nothing more that you could do. Humans have limitations, and you’re no exception.
3. Never Compare
Never compare yourself to someone else. Each individual person is capable of different things. Instead of automatically assuming you’re inferior, think about the person you’re comparing yourself to. Is it a celebrity that always looks stunning or an older sibling who has a high paying job? Everyone is at a different point in their life, so it’s unfair to compare yourself to someone in a completely different situation.
4. You’re the Judge
Know that no one else is judging you as harshly as you’re judging yourself. If you’re worried that everyone thinks poorly of you, it’s just your imagination. Since you’re constantly around yourself, you get to witness every dumb thing you say and do. Of course, you get to see all of your good parts as well. Stop focusing on the negative and start thinking about the positive.
5. Multiple Perspectives
Everyone sees the world differently. Some people consider Bs a poor grade while others think they’re fantastic. Two people can have two very different opinions. If you think that you’re unattractive, there are tons of people who think otherwise. Remember that the way you feel about yourself isn’t necessarily the way that others view you.
6. Fixing Flaws
We all have things that we want to change about ourselves. You can fix your flaws without being too hard on yourself. You can pinpoint your bad qualities and aim to enhance them. Don’t focus on the negative qualities; just know that they exist and try to fix them. You don’t have to sulk over every mistake you make.
7. You’re You
You can’t change who you are. You can only alter pieces of your personality and appearance in order to make yourself the best you that there is. Beyond that, you’re stuck being you for the rest of your days. That isn’t a bad thing! It’s a beautiful thing. You have your entire life to learn to love yourself, so it’s okay if it takes time for you to be comfortable with yourself.
