Do you need some reasons not to worry about getting older? Most people really fret about the advancing years and wish that they were younger. That's pretty pointless, as we'll never go back. And why would we want to, when there is so much to enjoy about life, however old you are? If you're in denial about aging, here are some reasons not to worry about getting older …
One of the most important reasons not to worry about getting older is that it's really not that scary. Elderly people will tell you that it may not be fun as your body ages, but there are plenty of older folk who find many reasons to be glad they're alive. Attitude is really important, and it's really not worth worrying about getting older.
Getting older can actually be a lot of fun. If you're convinced you'll get 'old', then that's exactly what will happen. Change your attitude, and be like the person who said 'Old age is always 15 years older than I am.' See life as fun, rather than something to be feared.
Getting older actually has a lot of advantages. Sure, it's great to have the energy and dewy skin of a 20 year old. But 20 years later, I'm pretty glad I'm not that young any more. I love the confidence that I have in my 40s and have achieved a lot more since I hit that landmark birthday than I ever did when I was young. You have maturity and experience on your side when you're older.
Unless you're Benjamin Button, you're going to get older. So since it's inevitable, you may as well accept it and not worry about something that is definitely going to happen. People waste an awful lot of energy wishing that they were younger and worrying about getting older. Put your energy into focusing on the present and enjoying life instead.
Things have changed a lot in the last few decades. Being over 40, 50, 60 and even 70 does not mean what it once did, and we're much less defined and pigeonholed by our age. 40 was once middle-aged, but I don't think anyone would dare call me that to my face! It's now seen as still young - as it should be.
Okay, so you're not 18, 25 or 30 any more. But so what? There is still so much to look forward to. You can never achieve everything. There are always more countries to visit, more books to read, more skills to learn - you will never run out of possibilities. Don't get trapped in nostalgia; it'll get you nowhere, and your life is far from over. Remember, it's never too late.
There's only one alternative to getting older, and that's pretty final. So it's not worth worrying about getting older …
It's true that nobody likes the physical signs of aging, but I don't advocate trying to hang on to your youth forever. Instead, concentrate on enjoying life and seeing the positive in getting older. There is so much that makes it worthwhile. What do you think you've gained as you've gotten older?
