I'm here to tell you why you should just be your best self. It seems like everywhere I go, or every ad I see, they all seem to have the same thing on them. They have pretty women that are skinny. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with being skinny. It’s not a sin to be skinny. What is wrong is when we body shame others for their shape or size.
What kind of world do we want our children to grow up in? A world where they have to be afraid of who they are, and what they look like? I applaud people like Jennifer Lawrence who condemned Hollywood with her statement, “Why is humiliating people funny? I get it, I do it too. We all do it. … But I think when it comes to the media, the media needs to take responsibility for the effect that it has on our younger generation, on these girls that are watching these television shows and picking up how to talk and how to be cool...So, then all of a sudden being funny is making fun of the girl that’s wearing an ugly dress. And the word fat! I just think it should be illegal to call somebody fat on TV. I mean, if we’re regulating cigarettes and sex and cuss words because of the effect it has on our younger generation, why aren’t we regulating things like calling people fat?” You've got to just be your best self.
We are living in a world of fear. Every movement we make is being watched and ridiculed by others. We can’t go a moment without someone judging us based on our appearance. I have a message for every women and girls out there: You are beautiful! Yes, YOU! Whether you’re 4’10" or 6'0" tall, skinny or not, you are beautiful. Wear that dress that you like, keep rocking your hair like a boss! You do you. You don’t have to be perfect, just be your best self.
