7 Extremely Useful Things You Can Learn from Therapists ...

By Corina4 Comments

There are a lot of things you can learn from therapists! While doing my training in hypnosis and cognitive-behavioral therapy, I was lucky enough to meet a lot of amazing and dedicated therapists that have thought me a lot about human interactions and how problematic behaviors arise. I’ve noticed that those therapists that are extremely talented and who do their job passionately share a similar mindset towards people in general. They can easily make someone feel understood, appreciated, accepted and valued, and they will also teach you how to be more tolerant and less judgmental. In order to deal more efficiently with all kinds of problems that may arise in your life, here are a few extremely useful things you can learn from therapists:

1 You Can Learn How to Accept and Appreciate Anyone

In my opinion, this is definitely one of the most useful things you can learn from therapists. Even if you don’t like someone, you can still learn how to accept and appreciate them. Just try to find things you admire about them and try to understand the reasons behind their actions, since most people do bad things believing that what they are doing is right. Separate the person from their behavior and try to understand why they act the way they do.

Frequently asked questions

2 Every Problem Was a Solution Once

This is something one of my professors tells me very often. Every problem was a solution once. Usually, when you find yourself in a difficult situation, you do everything in your power to feel better as soon as possible. But even if the first thing you do may help you that time, in the long term, it can cause you more problems and it can even turn into a symptom. Always search for different solutions to your problems, because sometimes your behavioral patterns are the ones that make you unhappy.

3 You Don’t Know What’s Good for Another Person

No one really knows what’s good for another person; they are the only ones who can figure that out. So, instead of giving someone advice or telling them how to act in a certain situation, try helping them discover what they want and then help them find different ways to reach their objectives. Be there by their side and offer them your support! Let people make their own decisions and allow them to make mistakes, since this can help them grow and change for the better.

4 Behaviors Depend on the Context

People do behave differently based on the situation. Even if you think that people act in a certain way because that’s the way they are, try to analyze the elements of the context and see if maybe that’s the cause of their behavior and not necessarily their personality.

5 There’s No Such Thing as Failure; It’s Only Feedback

This statement couldn’t be more true! There actually isn’t such a thing as failure; it’s only feedback. Don’t be afraid to fail, because failure can actually be the best teacher you’ll ever have. By making mistakes, you’ll know what things you need to change or improve about yourself in order to be successful in the future. See what you can learn from what you experience and keep trying!

6 Everyone Deserves to Be Happy

Everyone deserves to be happy, including you, no matter what you might think or feel sometimes. Everyone has things they wish they had never done, everyone has regrets and everyone hurt others intentionally or unintentionally, but that doesn’t mean that mistakes can’t be forgiven and that wounds can’t be healed. You deserve to be happy, so just allow yourself to feel this way.

7 You Are the One Who Can Fix Your Problems

No one can fix your problems but you. No matter what other people might tell you or even what your therapist might say, you are the one who decides how you want to act and what changes you want to make in your life. A therapist can help you clarify certain things, can help you understand better why you act in a certain way, but you are the one who needs to work in order to solve your problems.

There are a lot of things you can learn from therapists. I just mentioned a few here. Can you give me a hand and tell me what other things someone can learn from their therapist? Please share your thoughts with us in the comments section!
