The world is such a big place with so many people, but there are simple things you can do to help the world. Sometimes it seems like the earth is beyond saving, but if we do little things everyday they add up to big things! The best thing you can do for yourself, the earth and future generations is thinking about what you can do to positively affect the world. If you don’t know where to start, here are a few things you can do to help the world.

1 Cruelty Free Makeup

One of the things you can do to help the world around you is solely purchasing and using cruelty free makeup. Cruelty free makeup is makeup that is has not been tested on animals. Although it may seem difficult to locate cruelty free makeup, PETA’s (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) website has a search engine where you can find cruelty free products available for purchase both in your country or online.

2 Buy Clothes Domestically

In November 2013, Bangladesh factory workers received a pay raise after much demand and protest. They now make 5,300 Bangladeshi Takas (approx. £41/ USD $68) a month. Unfortunately, they are still the lowest paid workers in the world. Furthermore, many western countries still import and sell clothes made in factories from around the world that have poor working conditions and poor pay like the ones in Bangladesh. Although domestic clothing is costly, it’s the only way we can send a message to companies and businessmen that we won’t settle for the inhumane treatment of factory workers.

3 Go Vegetarian

Becoming vegetarian is hard and sometimes your body can feel the effects of not having a high enough intake of protein and oils. If you can’t completely cut meat and fish from your diet then try to reduce your consumption to one time a week. However, if you do decide to become full on vegetarian there are many alternative foods which are available to you that are rich in protein.

4 Respect

Many things influence the way we think, including religion, culture, friends and family, our upbringing, pop culture, age, and much more. With that being said, it’s completely okay to disagree with someone’s ideas, choices or lifestyle. However, silently disagreeing with your close group of friends or in your mind is a lot different than publicly shaming a certain group of people based on their gender, religion, sexuality, etc... Remember, treat others the way you want to be treated. In other words, treat people, no matter how different they are from you, with respect!

5 Education

I think almost of all us can agree that education is the number one way our world will prosper. Unfortunately, education isn’t available to everyone in the world. Although it isn’t easily available, it doesn’t mean education is impossible to receive for people around the world. We can help underprivileged children around the world to receive the education they need by donating money or even donating time – there are many organizations that send bilingual people around the globe to help teach others English or whatever language is applicable.

6 Clean Water

All animals in the world depend on clean water. However, our supply of clean water is starting to deplete. Furthermore, we pollute the homes and habitats of other animals that depend on clean water. Lastly, many places around the world do not have clean water readily available to them. However, by consuming less water, donating to organizations that clean up habitats and prevent further pollution, and donating to organizations that make water available in less developed parts of the world, clean water can be available to every animal on the planet.

7 Vote

The most important way you can help the world around you is by being more politically knowledgeable. Not only does your government affect your country but it also affects every other country in the world. Next election, research all the parties running for office and learn about where they stand on issues such as education, health care, job creation, environmental issues, and finances. More importantly, learn where they stand on global issues such as poverty, wars, and foreign relations.

The world doesn’t have to be such a scary place if we all contribute to making it a better place. We’ve come a long way as the human race – we’ve accomplished a lot from excavating dinosaur fossils from beneath the earth to walking on the moon. There’s nothing we can’t do if we put our minds to it! What are other ways we can help the world around us?
