5 Easy Ways to Feel Better when Life is Tough on You ...

The blues can set in at this time of year, everyone back to work, the new year in full swing, and January lasting a thousand days in itself, it’s easy to get down. But it is important to remember that life should be enjoyed to the full. Overindulging on food and drink and sleeping in during holidays can make this time of year adjusting back to normal a challenge, so it is good to remember there are natural everyday ways to feel better.

1

Meditate

The age-old practice of relaxation and mindfulness has not survived for no reason. It has many impressive physical and mental benefits. There is a nurturing that emerges when practicing and it certainly gives you time out from the stress and battle of everyday modern life. There are plenty of apps out there and all you need to spare is 10 minutes a day. If you are a beginner why not try Sam Harris' Waking Up app or something similar

2

Exercise

It goes without saying that exercise gives us a beautiful natural high. That feeling of raised heartbeats and sweat and accomplishment that follows exertion is second to none on the endorphins spectrum. Whether it is a walk, a run, a swim, or stairs, there are plenty of options. If you are not so great with the self-motivation - try joining a team where you won't want to let others down. Exercise is fun - find the one that makes you smile while you get fit

3

Be Kind

It is often said that kindness makes the world go around. Sometimes when you are looking inwardly too often, a depression sets in. When you go out of your way to be kind for someone else, a warmth emerges that cannot be found in other activities. There are many people who do it tough, there are mums that need a hand, people in aged homes who do not get visitors, even friends who just need a chat. Be the kindness you want to see in the world. Make someone feel better, or at the very least why not wish people well?

4

Take Time to Smell the Coffee

In this day and age of long work hours, family responsibilities, and chores, it is easy to get into a routine of work, eat, sleep. But this is not good for us. We only live once (as far as we know) and it makes sense to enjoy this brief time we have on Earth. So think of the things that give you pleasure - dancing, reading poetry, creating a special dinner, music, dancing, creating, and DO IT. Make time for pleasure. Make a list of all the things you enjoy (or have enjoyed) doing and schedule them into your week. Do something for pleasure every single day!

5

Set Goals and Schedule Good Habits

It is often said that if you are unhappy with something in your life, then change it. If you are unhappy with your job, then look for another or prepare for a different more fulfilling career. Why not? Again you only live once, don't you want to spend that time doing things you love? If you are unhappy within your job, why not explore your options? Many people make big career changes throughout their lives. Or if you are generally happy with your career, but feel something else is missing, why not take an evening or online course just for interest's sake? Who says you cannot learn to draw or write or learn to make something new? It is healthy to be creative. Find a hobby that makes you smile and make 2019 the year of YES!
