1

You Crave the Attention

You may be using social media for the wrong reasons if you are craving attention. It is absolutely okay to share on social media the good things in your life or even that you are having a bad day. But if you do it knowing that you are only wanting attention, you might need to examine that motive. Your goal should be to share rather than seeing how much attention you can rake in. If getting attention is the goal, you may need to give it some thought as to why that is.

2

You Neglect in Person Friends

Have you got to the point you neglect your real circle of friends for social media? Do you want to have an online connection more than you want time with your real life friends? If so, social media may have become more important than it should be to you. Try to spend less time on social media for a while. Make an effort to get out more with your friends and see if this helps shift your focus.

3

You Use Social Media to Indirectly Insult Others

I have seen this happen so many times on social media. Someone tries to insult someone else without actually saying something to them directly. Instead they share something that has an indirect dig in it. This is really immature. It also something others easily see through.

4

You Use Social Media to Brag about Yourself

It is great to share your accomplishments with your friends on social media. There is nothing wrong with that. But there is a line that can be crossed here. It is important to be careful that you are just sharing your accomplishments and not bragging. Bragging isn’t something that others will enjoy reading. In fact, it can really hit people wrong.

5

You Feel Jealous of Others

If using social media makes you feel jealous of others, maybe it is time to take a break from it. It may be affecting you in ways you don’t need. Anyone could feel a twinge of envy when they see someone’s pictures from a recent cruise when they can’t afford any vacation at all. But, if it bothers you beyond a passing feeling of envy, that is a sign you are really letting it get to you. Step back a bit and think about all of the blessings in your life.

6

You Vent Rather than Deal in Real Life

We all post a little gripe on social media from time to time. That isn’t abnormal. But if you find yourself constantly turning to social media to vent, think that over. It could be you need to deal with the issues that are making you feel the need to vent. Another thing to remember; whatever you put out there can’t be taken back.

7

It is Your Escape

If you find yourself using social media as your escape from reality, you may be using social media for the wrong reasons. Social media can be fun and entertaining. But it is not intended to be an escape from real life problems. It should be something you enjoy a bit then go on with your real life. It is important to keep social media in its proper place.

Social media can be fun and useful but you have to be careful not to use it for the wrong reasons such as those listed here. What about you? Have you ever used social media for a wrong reason?
