Even if you only have 5 minutes to pull one of these relaxation techniques out of the bag, you will find that you feel invigorated, refreshed, and somewhat prepared to finish the task before you. 1

Take a Deep Breath

This is one of those tried and true relaxation techniques that has been around since forever, but it always seems to work! When you find that you are getting frustrated or stressed out with something, take a deep breath and count to 10. Just that moment of telling yourself it’s okay will calm your stress levels down! You could even take a moment or two to meditate and clear your mind.

2

Hug Someone

Getting cuddles from babies or little kids is one of the sweetest ways to reduce your stress levels! If you don’t have any kids of your own, then hug a close friend or relative. Studies have proven that large amounts of tension are released through hugging, so don’t skimp on the hugs anytime you’re feeling a little overloaded!

3

Get a Massage

If you have anywhere from thirty minutes to an hour of free time, go and get yourself a massage! It’s worth the splurge! Some places may offer a 20-minute massage you could get during your lunch break if work has been rough for you that day. Otherwise, devote a day or an evening to some self-pampering!

4

Burn a Candle

The key for this tip is to not burn just ANY candle. Choose a candle that has aromatherapy or is made with essential oils. Scents are able to soothe and calm the brain, so pick something you really like and let the candle do all the work! Some great choices are lavender, lemon, orange blossom, vanilla, or peppermint.

5

Kiss Your Sweetheart

Did you know that kissing is one of the greatest stress relievers in the world? Kissing literally ‘takes your breath away,’ leaving you powerless to focus on anything but the kiss. It’s a great way to take a load off and just stop trying to figure everything out at once. So remember to grab an extra smooch or two from your lover today!

Drink Hot Tea

Herbal teas have many more benefits than just boosting your health. Herbal teas can stimulate and relax you at the same time! The stimulation is good because it refreshes and energizes you for the rest of the day. But at the same time, herbal tea will help soothe you and lift those heavy worries or emotions from your shoulders. Just choose a flavor you love, and remember to drink it while it’s hot for best results.

7

Listen to Music

Music has such an effect on our emotions. It can revive, encourage, de-stress, soothe, anger, or relax the soul. It can make us laugh or cry, and it can boost our spirits or bring us down. Put your favorite tunes on if you’re having a particularly trying day. Classical music is the best for calming frazzled nerves!

8

Have a Time-out

Contrary to popular belief, time-outs aren’t JUST for overly excited children. An adult can take a time-out too! When working on a project, if you feel yourself starting to stress out or overthink things, then take a minute or two (or thirty), and just have a time-out. Rest, eat, surf the web, or do whatever helps you chill out. Then jump back in with fresh eyes! You’ll be glad you did it.

Studies have shown that being stressed out can reduce your life span and cause premature wrinkles and gray hair. Make good use out of these relaxation techniques, and choose one to try each day to reduce the amount of stress in your life! You will be glad you did. What eases your stress?

Great

I love herbal teas, been enjoying peppermint lately to finish the day and ready for sleep :) sometimes if i have trouble getting to sleep and my mind is too full, i breathe in and out very slowly and concentrate on just breathing.. Really helps me to relax when i really need it! :)
