Malala Yousafzai

Malala Yousafzai Malala Yousafzai takes every stereotype about teenage girls out there and completely obliterates them. At just seventeen, she’s changed female education more than people decades older than her. She’s the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, and she’s one of the most courageous people in the world right now, and definitely one of the most empowering women. If she isn’t your #WCW every Wednesday, I’m not sure who is.

Nora Ephron

Nora Ephron Where do I start with my love for Nora Ephron? Besides the fact that she was one of the first female directors, and wrote and directed some of the greatest romantic comedies of all time, she’s also the coolest feminist you’ll ever come across. She has some of the greatest quotes out there, like “You can’t meet someone until you’ve become what you’re becoming” and “Above all, be the heroine of your life, not the victim.” If you haven’t been acquainted with her work yet, I suggest you cancel your plans for an entire weekend and just enjoy it all. You won’t be sorry.

3

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie If you are like me and haven’t stopped listening to Beyoncé’s Flawless since it was released a few months ago, then you know who Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is, even if you think you don’t. She’s the woman behind the wonderful monologue in Beyoncé’s Flawless. I was first introduced her, and her now famous speech, as a freshman in college, and it was life changing, to say the least.

4

Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey It’s hard to talk about empowering women and fail to mention Oprah. What can’t Oprah do? There’s nothing stopping her. She can act, produce, write, and as everyone knows, host her own hit talk show. There’s not much that needs to be said about Oprah, because everyone already knows just how inspiring she is.

5

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift There is nothing more annoying to me than women who identify as feminists and then immediately begin bashing Taylor Swift. She’s one of the most powerful women in music right now, and she does it all while writing songs that are deeply personal to her, and simply being a lovely person. Celebrities, and people in general, like Taylor Swift are hard to find these days, and I can’t wait to watch everything she accomplishes.

Famous Quotes

One who gains strength by overcoming obstacles possesses the only strength which can overcome adversity.

Lena Dunham

Lena Dunham Lena Dunham has almost become the poster child for this wave of feminism, and that doesn’t come without reason. She’s the creator of Girls, a revolutionary show on HBO, and is currently touring the country promoting her book, Not that Kind of Girl, on top of just being one of the coolest celebrities out there. If only we could all be best friends with Lena Dunham.

7

Mindy Kaling

Mindy Kaling As sure I’m everyone knows by now, I am always more than happy to talk about just why Mindy Kaling is one of the most inspiring women in the public eye right now. She’s the first woman of color to create, write, and star in her own show, but she won’t let herself be defined by that. When people do try to define her with that, she instantly shuts them down and asks to be seen in the same light as her male counterparts, and that is why she should always be your #WCW.
