7 Common Types of Demotivation That You Need to Overcome ...

By Corina

There are different types of demotivation that can affect your productivity and prevent you from reaching your goals. Whether it’s fear of success or fear of failure or any other possible reason, we can all become demotivated sometimes. If you’re always working hard to achieve all your goals and to fulfill all your dreams, then it’s essential to keep your motivation levels high. If you are motivated, you can create growth and change, you feel powerful, you can focus on what you have to do to achieve your objectives and you’ll find the courage to try new things. Thomas A. Edison once said that “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.” Here are a few very common types of demotivation that you need to overcome by identifying the real reasons for your unwillingness to commit to action:

Fear

Among the most common types of demotivation, I believe that fear is the number one thing that can prevent you from reaching your goals. Fear slows you down, it makes you hesitant and it also makes you doubt yourself and your abilities. Fear can really be a problem for you if you allow it to do so. If it’s big enough, your desire to stay safe might not let you take the risks you‘ll have to take in order to reach your goals. Work on controlling your fear, calm yourself down and be courageous. I know that it’s easier said than done, but with a bit of work and with a lot of patience, you will manage to keep your fear under control, so it won’t affect your productivity.

2

You’ve Set the Wrong Goals

Have you discovered what you want to do with your life? This is not an easy process and it may take quite a while. Maybe what you are doing now is not what you really want or what would make you happy, and that’s why you may not be so motivated to keep going in that direction. If you are absolutely sure that what you are doing now does not suit you, if you’ve evaluated that entire situation, if you are aware of all the facts and you assume all the consequences of your actions, then you should remove those toxic goals you’ve set and focus on what you think would make you happy instead.

3

Lack of Clarity about What You Want

Another very common type of demotivation could be your lack of clarity about what you really want. If your picture of the future is pretty vague, if you still don’t know what your dreams are or if what you are doing will help you reach your dreams, then you should take some time to think very carefully if what you are doing is really what you want. Clarify your goals and your means of reaching them, and this will help you feel more motivated, since you will feel more comfortable moving towards them.

4

Lack of Autonomy

Lack of autonomy can be another thing that can affect your motivation and prevent you from reaching your goals. Just try to consider how much autonomy you have in relation to the goals you are pursuing and notice if you feel controlled or restricted in any way. If your answer is yes, then you should do something to solve this situation if you are trying to increase your motivation.

5

Lack of Challenge

Do you often feel bored when you should be working to fulfill your goals? Lack of challenge is another very common factor that could demotivate you very easily, so try to understand why you often feel this way. Are there any other things you could do that could increase your motivation levels? Are your tasks too easy? Would you rather do something more difficult that will keep you interested? Just like Cath Duncan said, “Try tweaking your goals to make them a bit more challenging, take on projects that will require you to grow and find a new thing or two to learn to stimulate yourself.”

Men in general judge more from appearances than from reality. All men have eyes, but few have the gift of penetration.

Loneliness

This thing happens especially to those people who work alone from home. There are plenty of days when you can feel demotivated, when you would rather go out and take a walk or have a drink with one of your friends than take care of your tasks. I know I feel this way sometimes. Well, we are all social creatures, we are always trying to connect with others and this might affect our motivation sometimes. The best thing you can do on those days is to just take a little break and spend some time with someone you like, someone you find inspiring, someone who will motivate you to get your job done and who will have a positive impact on your productivity.

You’re Demotivated by Burn-out

It’s quite understandable why you lack motivation if you’re always tired and if you barely have enough energy to satisfy your basic needs. If you realize that lately, you would rather snooze than do something you enjoy, then maybe it’s time to take a little break and slow down a bit. Don’t work yourself too hard, get enough sleep and take care of yourself! You won’t be able to feel motivated if you’re exhausted. You will see that once you’ll feel more rested and more refreshed, the quality of your work will improve and demotivation will not be a problem for you anymore.

Just listen to Norman Vincent Peale‘s advice and “Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.” Have you ever felt demotivated? What did you do to overcome those feelings? Do you know any other common types of demotivation someone should overcome in order to be successful? Please share your thoughts with us in the comments section!

Where Thoughts and Opinions Converge

This article really hits home for me. I feel like I'm in an impossible situation. I can't get help, I'm majorly depressed and demotivated . I haven't been able to share this with anyone, and I don't know what to do, or even where to begin. My mom had respiratory failure and was sent to the hospital, the doc said she needed someone to help take care of her. I gladly accepted. I still worked until the day she fell and broke her arm, and then she had to have 24 hour supervision. She also has dementia where she screams for hours for no reason, (vocal disturbance behavior). I had to quit my waitress job and stay at home. It got to where I couldn't even leave the house to go to the store, because she would flail in the tailed hospital bed and hurt herself. My husband hates that he's working and I'm here taking care of her. I started school online to try and educate myself and get a degree at least while I'm home, but eventually her screams caused me major lack of focus and concentration. I've had to stop school awhile. Now he's even more angry, not that he even cared I was going to school. He refuses to help me in the house, with mom, the kids, or even help pay for household expenses. I want him out soooo bad, he is so hateful and immature the things he says, but he will take my funds and buy food for us at the store, cause he loves to eat it. How can I find motivation in this??? All I want to do is run away from the hurt and exhaustion from taking care of everything. But I've gotta be here for mom and the kids. He loves emotionally abusing us with hurtful words every day. I'm so ready to give up. I haven't been out of this house now in 2 years, and he won't help pay for a sitter for mom and I can't afford one. So my motivation is 0. I don't know what to do. Sorry for saying all of this, but I've been quiet so long ...
